A Muted Color Palette in a Charming Late 19th-Century Apartment
On the second floor of a late 19th-century apartment building in the Södermalm area of Stockholm lies this beautiful one-bedroom apartment featuring period elements, modern renovations, and high ceilings.
With a ceiling height of 3 meters, large windows, and a light color palette, the apartment feels wonderfully bright and is a calm haven in the middle of a busy city. The home has an open-plan living space, perfect for social gatherings, while the bedroom faces the quiet courtyard for a peaceful night’s rest.

The living room is spacious and social, with room for a comfortable seating area and a dining table. On one wall, a site-built bookcase has been fitted next to the original fireplace.

Three large windows in a row bring in plenty of natural light, and the walls are painted in a beige shade with a yellow undertone called “Ginseng” by Jotun.

The new built-in bookcase is made in a style matching the original joinery from the late 19th century.

There is space for a dining table in the corner connecting the living room and the kitchen.

A small island with bar seating and storage drawers is used as a subtle divider between the kitchen and the living room.

The kitchen is made from IKEA frames paired with Picky Living doors painted in a pale green shade. The cabinets are topped with Jura grey limestone countertops and a black faucet.

The combination of a display shelf and a double row of upper cabinets makes the kitchen feel spacious while also adding plenty of storage.

The kitchen walls are painted in a gray-beige color called ‘Space’ by Jotun.

The hall is painted in the same gray-beige color as the kitchen. It features built-in wardrobes and a dark-stained double IKEA dresser.

The spacious bedroom faces the quiet courtyard, allowing for a good night’s rest. The walls and wardrobes are painted in a calming gray-green shade.

Double glazed doors lead out to a spacious balcony with room for a bistro dining set and lounge furniture.

It has a nice view of the various period buildings surrounding the courtyard.

The bedroom features a custom-made wardrobe wall from Deco Form.

In the corner of the room stands another original fireplace, with a mid-century style desk next to it, featuring a red HAY Rey chair.

The apartment’s bathroom is small but practical, with a shower featuring two storage niches and classic white subway tiles on the walls and dark gray hexagon floor tiles.

The entry hall features wooden floorboards painted in a classic red-and-white checkerboard pattern. The entry also features three built-in wardrobes offering plenty of storage space.
