Large Windows, Period Character, and a Charming Kitchen in a Swedish Apartment
On the first floor of one of Gothenburg’s best-preserved turn-of-the-century apartment buildings lies this beautiful one-bedroom apartment, where period features are paired with thoughtful updates.
You can feel that this home has been much-loved in its more than 100-year history. Period features, such as floorboards, fireplaces, stucco, and large windows, have been preserved and recreated, giving the spaces historic character.
The apartment features airy rooms with high ceilings and large windows, and the flexible layout can transform this one-bedroom home into a two-bedroom apartment.

The living room is spacious and bright, thanks to three huge windows that let in natural light that dances beautifully on the original wooden floorboards.

The walls in the living room are painted in Turquoise Patricia from Auro.

An antique daybed in front of the windows is a perfect reading spot.

In the corner of the room, an original Swedish fireplace (a kakelugn) warms up the room in the evenings.

The rounded wall in the living room is fitted with custom-built bookshelves.

On the other side of the hall, facing the peaceful courtyard, lies the small but stylish and functional kitchen.

The kitchen was built on site by HEG Snickeri in 2023 and offers an elegant material palette: a composite countertop in the shade “Turbine Grey” and solid doors brush-painted in Little Green’s sophisticated color “Slaked Lime Deep.”

The beautiful original window overlooks the courtyard.

The angled wall is fitted with tongue-and-groove paneling topped with a classic blue wallpaper. A small bistro table with a marble top and a wall-mounted bench provides the perfect spot for breakfast.

The kitchen is also fitted with original built-in cabinetry that adds even more storage space.

Beautiful mirror double doors separate the living room from the corner room, now used as a dining room, but it could also be a second bedroom.

The dining room is a magnificent corner room with windows in multiple directions facing the lush greenery outdoors.

The walls are painted in a darker hue (Bone China Blue from Little Green) that highlights the original stucco and the light wooden floor.

This room is also fitted with an original tiled fireplace featuring pastel-colored decorations.

Another pair of mirrored doors leads you to the spacious bedroom, which features two large windows and another fireplace.

The walls are painted in a soft pink hue (China clay deep from Little Green) that interacts nicely with the wooden floor and stucco.

The hall features smart storage baskets from Norrgavel and light gray painted walls.
