Historic Charm in a Beautiful, Restored Early 20th-Century Swedish Home
In a small village northeast of Gothenburg in South Sweden stands this beautiful early 20th-century villa. The villa from 1917 retains its original charm and was lovingly restored in recent years using materials that suit the original building period, such as linseed oil paint, egg oil tempera, and clay plastering.Â
In every room of the 160-square-meter house, the historic feeling is obvious. Early 20th-century details have been retained, traditional Swedish fireplaces add warmth, and furniture (both antique and modern) suits the building style beautifully.

From the large entry hall, you move into the cozy living room with soft neutral walls, a beautiful wooden floor, and windows on two sides overlooking the garden.

Like many historic houses, this villa also has a nice, flowing layout, with the living spaces connected by double wooden doors or wide doorways. It creates a social open-plan layout while maintaining intimate living spaces.

The living room is painted with egg oil tempera and contains a working tiled stove from the end of the 19th century, oiled board floors, and light from two directions through windows with mouth-blown glass.

A beautiful kakelugn stands in the corner of the main sitting room, which is decorated in soft, pastel hues.

From the main sitting room, double wooden doors lead to the library, graced with another ornate fireplace.

The library room features site-built bookshelves, original moldings, and a cardboard-stretched ceiling that gives the room both pomp and coziness.

A wide doorway leads you to the cozy kitchen, where you can feel the turn-of-the-century character.

The cozy kitchen features tongue-and-groove paneling, a beautiful wooden floor, a cast-iron sink, and wall tiles in a bond pattern.

Herbs and baskets are hanging from the ceiling, creating a cozy country-style charm to the kitchen. The ochre-yellow door leads to a utility room.

The house features a back entry with a staircase leading to the first floor.

Wooden shelves instead of upper cabinets create a more cozy atmosphere in the kitchen, and allow you to display your best glassware and crockery.

A separate dining room is decorated with chest paneling and a dark-stained wooden ceiling.

In the large entry hall, the wooden floorboards are painted in a classic checkerboard pattern. The paneled walls are painted in a light blue shade paired with a beige-yellow ceiling.

In the hall, you can also find a guest toilet with lavender wall paneling.

Upstairs are four large rooms. Two are now used as bedrooms, with a room connected to the master bedroom used as a home office/music room.

The master bedroom is painted in a blue-gray shade paired with ochre bedding to add warmth.

The bathroom is designed in a classic style with a checkerboard tiled floor, a clawfoot bath, high parapet paneling, and a dark-stained wooden ceiling.

The house stands on a 4,759 square meter plot with several garden rooms surrounded by older park trees that create a green setting.

The ground also features a cottage, now used as a shop (Lin och Lera), with multiple rooms and a large first floor. It would be a great guest house.

The house is listed for sale at Kulturarvs Specialisterna.
