Dark Oiled Floorboards and Muted Tones Turn This Apartment Into a Warm Home

There is something very calming about this apartment. Despite being located close to Stockholm’s city center, the one-bedroom apartment is a serene haven thanks to a muted color scheme and period features.

The home is located on the raised ground floor in an early 20th-century building with beautiful views of the trees in the courtyard from the large windows with deep niches.

Period elements from the 1910s, such as wooden floors, mirrored doors, high skirting boards, and windows, have been preserved, adding character to the interior spaces.

The apartment has a floor size of only 41 square meters, but high ceilings and large windows make the rooms feel more spacious.

The living room is a cozy space with white baseboards and walls painted in a light beige color (“Kokos” by Jotun).

The large six-part window overlooks the courtyard with its large trees. Despite being in the city, you can see the seasons change in this apartment simply by looking out the window.

The original wooden floorboards are brown oiled, adding warmth to the living room, especially with that beige shade on the walls. By painting the upper part of the wall white, the ceiling looks even higher than it already is.

I think the kitchen is the most charming space in the home. It has been continuously renovated over the course of three years, creating a welcoming space that you can spend time in during the day.

Kitchen cabinets are fitted along one wall with white upper cabinets and deep green mirror doors on the lower cabinets. These are paired with a wooden worktop and white backsplash tiles in a old-fashioned style, matching the apartment’s building period.

The large window with its deep window niche lets in natural light, while a linen café curtain keeps it private. The deep window niche can also be used as extra storage space.

On the other side, a dining area has been created with a built-in bench, tongue-and-groove paneling, and a large wooden table. More storage has been added by adding cabinets high up the wall.

Tucked between the living room and the kitchen lies the apartment’s bedroom with fully glazed doors leading to a balcony.

The walls are painted in a deep gray-green shade, with the original white baseboards. It’s such a calming shade that suits a bedroom perfectly.

Next to the door, built-in wardrobes have been fitted, made from IKEA’s Pax system.

The long hall connects all the rooms, and just like in the other rooms, the wooden floorboards are brown-oiled. In this area, it is paired with a dull brown-gray shade on the walls.

The small bathroom was renovated four years ago with simple white tilework on the walls and dark gray on the floor. The mirror cabinet and cabinets under the sink provide storage space.

Next to the front door, the hall features a custom-built original cupboard to store coats and shoes.

The apartment is listed for sale at Historiska Hem.
