A Light London Family House with a Modern Extension
In the heart of Lower Clapton in London stands a historic terraced house that has been renovated in recent years. The owners collaborated with architects Yellow Cloud Studio to create a light kitchen extension, adding a lot of extra square footage to the home.
The five-bedroom family house in London is decorated in a soft color palette, which is paired with raw materials in the extension to create a nice contrast in materials and color. The window seat and floor-to-ceiling doors connect the living kitchen with the back garden.
Contrasting the modern extension, the house also features beautiful original elements such as a bay window, pine floorboards, and multiple fireplaces. It’s a beautiful family home filled with light and calm spaces.
The front of the house is home to a double living room with original features like the restored pine floorboards, the decorative fireplaces, and the cornicing on the ceiling.
The living room is painted in Farrow & Ball’s ‘Skimming Stone‘.
A capsule-shaped window looks down to the extension below. It’s a unique connection between the old part of the house and the new.
The kitchen is a stylish modern space with a polished concrete floor, a limewashed brick wall, and oak cabinets. A skylight runs the length of the extension and down its façade, forming a garden lookout for the oak-lined reading nook.
The large kitchen is made of bespoke oak cabinetry and a black terrazzo island inlaid with oversized chunks of colorful aggregate. The kitchen design is completed with Bert Frank pendants that hang above the island and a splashback of ‘Confiserie Blush‘ tiles by Claybrook.
The master bedroom is positioned at the front of the house and is characterized by a wall of built-in oak wardrobes, two sash windows, and an original cast-iron fireplace.
The bathroom features a Kast concrete sink.
The house is listed with The Modern House for £1,600,000
