A Scandinavian Family Apartment with a Rusty Red Kitchen

An old school building in Stockholm, dating back to the 1950s, has been turned into a modern apartment complex and today we can tour one of these apartments. The high ceilings remind you of the former occupation of the building, but with modern design and an open layout, the house feels modern and inviting.

The apartment is located in a former classroom and the 3.30 meter ceilings and the large windows give you a glimpse of the history. There is a nice flow in the 83 square meter apartment with an open hallway, living room, and kitchen, two big bedrooms, and a smaller room off the kitchen that was created during the latest renovation.

The social spaces are decorated in an earthy color scheme. The oak parquet floor is paired with walls painted in Pearl Gray from Ovolin and the large original windows flood the room with light.

Textiles in earthy tones add a warm vibe to the room.

The IVAR cabinets are probably one of the most popular pieces from IKEA because I see them in almost every home. In this apartment, they fitted them to the wall to make them floating and the owners have painted them in the same color as the wall, which is something I see a lot lately.

A large natural rug sits between the kitchen and the sitting room to define the dining area with a classic wooden table and design chairs.

The kitchen was renovated in 2021 and consists of smooth lacquered doors in a rust red color with fittings from Norrgavel that go well with the stainless steel worktop and white tiles all the way to the ceiling.

A small room off the kitchen has been added during the latest renovation. It can be closed off with white glass Smidesrum doors, which still let through light and keep the open feeling that you see in the rest of the apartment.

The small room is now used as a home office with a custom wooden floating desk under the large window and wooden shelves with natural baskets to provide neat storage space.
