Color, Pattern, and Period Features in a Georgian Villa Apartment

Tucked away at the end of a quiet private road in the Aberdeen Park Conservation Area, this Georgian villa apartment offers a rare blend of historic charm and imaginative design.

Re-envisioned by its photographer-owner in collaboration with artist and interior designer Christabel MacGreevy, the home unfolds as a considered composition of color (drawn from a paint palette sourced mainly from color historian Patrick Baty’s Paper and Paints), texture, and classic English country eccentricity.

I am starting the tour on the first floor, where you will find a duck-egg blue living room (shade ‘K25’ from Papers & Paints).

The spacious living room basks in natural light thanks to soaring ceilings and a grand bay of sash windows that open onto a petite terrace.

The bay windows are adorned with ruffled blinds made from fabric by Turnell and Gigon. The armchair is upholstered in Pierre Frey fabric.

The private entrance leads into a flagstone hallway lined with slate and warmed by underfloor heating.

As part of an extensive renovation completed just two years ago, this entrance level was cleverly reconfigured to include a guest W/C, wrapped in ‘Wendle Forest’ wallpaper by Colefax & Fowler paired with tongue-and-groove paneling painted in Farrow & Ball’s ‘Dix Blue.’ The entry floor also features a practical boot room.

At the rear of the plan, you find the home’s sunniest room: a yellow kitchen painted in Farrow & Ball’s buoyant ‘Babouche.’

Calacatta Mocha marble tops and shelving add softness and sophistication, while a Bertazzoni Italia range and Miele appliances underscore the room’s practical credentials.

Every detail feels intentional, from the waist-height Corston Architectural switches to the deVOL creamware pendant, and the restored sash windows framing a French door.

Step through the kitchen’s French door and you’re in a paved courtyard garden, complete with a wooden gate that leads straight into the leafy residents’ park.

The master bedroom features the same large bay window as the living room one floor down. The bay window is fitted with a built-in bench decorated with a sun-bleached Bennison pinstripe linen.

The walls in the master bedroom are painted in the earthy green shade ‘5-063’ from Papers and Paints.

The stairs to the right of the bed lead to the bedroom’s en-suite bathroom, clad in marble tiles from Maderin Stone.

The main bathroom is decorated with the yellow ‘Squiggle’ wallpaper by Sibyl Colefax and John Fowler, paired with tongue-and-groove paneling painted in ‘Bancha’ by Farrow & Ball. A beautiful antique glass cabinet stores toiletries.

The main bathroom has a shower and a bathtub. The floor is covered with small, narrow tiles laid in a herringbone pattern, and the shower is tiled in handmade white tiles. All fixtures are from Burlington.
