Historic Character in a Georgian Townhouse Basement Kitchen in Bath
It’s time to show you a new deVOL kitchen and this time I want to share this beautiful basement kitchen in a Georgian townhouse in Bath. For this kitchen, deVOL’s design team worked with interior designer Banjo Beale, who beautifully preserved the historic character of the room like the chippy woodwork, panelling, doors and cupboards that were left in its original state.
Despite being a basement room, it’s a serene space with soft light streaming through the original wavy glass panes, illuminating the room with a gentle, timeless glow. Banjo and deVOL added Classic English cabinets to the room which suit the historic character of the house very well.

The deVOL Classic cupboards, designed with Georgian detailing, fit seamlessly into this historic setting. Painted in the deep, elegant shade of Printer’s Black and topped with bespoke copper worktops, these elements bring a subdued sophistication that complements the ancient stone floors and original fireplace.
The combination of these soft, natural tones with the room’s historic features creates a harmonious blend of old and new.
While the kitchen retains its authentic charm, modern touches have been thoughtfully integrated to meet the needs of a contemporary family. The addition of a Lacanche cooker offers practical functionality without compromising the room’s aesthetic.
Paired with deVOL’s brass rails and Heirloom wall lighting, these details add a touch of elegance and warmth, ensuring the space feels fresh, welcoming, and ready for family life.
Surrounded by honey-colored stone walls, this space feels like a peaceful retreat filled with history.
