Inviting Colors in a Charming Georgian House in London
A beautiful palette of colors invites you into this renovated Georgian house in London. The house was built in the 1810s as part of a Regency residential boom in Islington, and in later years, a shop front was added to the house.
The owners of the carefully renovated house have an eye for design and color. The four-bedroom house is painted in comforting tones like green and beige tones, with unexpected color pops in the bathroom and hallway.
There is also plenty of space to connect to nature. On the top floor lies a rounded roof terrace, and behind the house, you’ll find a mature, tiered garden. It feels like a world away from London.
From the hallway, you enter a grand living room with a rounded wall and a fireplace placed centrally in the room. The walls are painted in ‘Green Smoke‘ by Farrow and Ball, while the ceiling is painted in ‘De Nimes Blue‘, also by Farrow and Ball.
The French doors in the living room open up to a small balcony overlooking the garden.
The grand reception room is divided into two areas. The hall space with the staircase is now used as a home library. You can also peek into the hallway painted in ‘Picture Gallery Red‘ by Farrow and Ball.
This frosted inner window sits between the living room and the bedroom in the former shop. Thanks to it, some natural light from the room beyond finds its way into the sitting room.
The lower floor is home to an open-plan living room, kitchen, and dining space. The walls are painted in ‘Archive‘ by Farrow and Ball, a beautiful warm tone. This warm feeling is enhanced by the terracotta tiles on the floor.
At the back of the lower ground floor, you’ll find the garden room. This extended room has a glazed roof making it flood with natural light. Double doors open up to the tiered garden.
The current owners love to cook, so they designed a custom kitchen with the help of Vinycomb Bate. The kitchen cabinets are painted in ‘Treron‘ by Farrow and Ball and paired with an English oak worktop.
On the top two floors are three bedrooms (the fourth bedroom is in the former shop on the ground floor). One of the smaller rooms is painted in ‘India Yellow’ by Farrow and Ball.
The entire first floor is home to the master suite. The walls are painted in French Gray which, together with the stripped floorboards, create a calm atmosphere in the bedroom.
In the master bathroom, the same wall color is used but here it is paired with bold pink accents created with ‘Radicchio‘ by Farrow and Ball.
The pink painted arch gives entry to the shower which is clad in gray and white Emery and Cie tiles.
The bedroom on the ground floor has its own bathroom, making it perfect for staying guests.
The top-floor room has a glass wall that can be completely opened to give access to the roof terrace. The glass wall and the skylights create a wonderfully light room with amazing views of the garden and the rooftops of London.
The dark green painted front door is reclaimed from a 19th-century bank, and the color blends in with the former shop-front façade, which is painted in Farrow and Ball’s ‘Studio Green‘.
