A Classic and Luxurious Lakeside Home in Sweden
Around 35 minutes from Sweden’s capital city, Stockholm, you are at ‘the gate of the archipelago,’ an area surrounded by nature and with hundreds of islands filled with charming summer houses.
This historic house is located on the island of Vaxholm and has recently been renovated into a luxurious lakeside home decorated in gray tones and classic furniture. The villa was built in 1812, and, luckily, the history of the house is still visible indoors, with original fireplaces, sash windows offering a view of the lake, and wood-paneled walls.
At the back of the yellow-painted house, a gravel path lined with boxwood and other vegetation leads down to a lovely jetty with outdoor furniture and sun loungers, where you can sit in the sun overlooking the lake.
The entry of the home sets the tone for the rest of the home. Light gray wooden walls are paired with a classic black and white checkerboard floor and two benches with lake views.
The space under the stairs (on the right) is turned into a utility room/pantry.
From the hall, you enter a classic sitting room with the ‘Doves’ wallpaper designed by Flora Roberts for Lewis & Wood.
There is a nice flow between the rooms on the ground floor which are all situated around the hallway.
From the dining room, you move into a charming country kitchen with gray cabinets, brass fixtures, and a checkerboard floor. The orange walls add a warm tone to this charming kitchen space.
There is one bedroom downstairs, which is decorated with the yellow ‘Indienne’ wallpaper from Lewis & Wood. The design was painted by Parisian textile designer Serge Maury and is based on the 18th-century chintzes from the Coromandel Coast in Southern India.
The room also features a traditional painted fireplace.
One of the upstairs bedrooms features the same wallpaper as the living room, though this time in a warm ochre yellow tone.
The classic bathroom features marble tiles, a freestanding bath, and brass fittings. The washing machine and dryer are neatly hidden from view behind the glass doors.
In total, the house has four bedrooms.
On the first floor is another living room decorated in the ‘Jasper peony’ wallpaper from Lewis & Wood.
The glass veranda on the first floors offers an amazing view of the lake.
The house is listed for sale at Nordstrands Mäkleri
