A Modern Apartment in a London Victorian House
On the raised ground floor of a Victorian terrace house in London Fields lies this light, modern apartment with bold color pops. The apartment was recently transformed by EBBA, adding bespoke joinery to create a light, minimalistic home with vibrant color accents.
The apartment is small (461 square feet), but the rooms feel spacious and airy thanks to the high ceilings, large windows, and abundant natural light. This naturally light atmosphere is enhanced by a white color base, making the room feel crisp and stylish.
The living room sits at the front of the plan and features a large bay window with high, original double-glazed sash windows. The walls and ceiling are painted white, and the floor is covered with ‘Fenland Oak’ floorboards by Reeve Wood.
Bespoke shelving has been fitted on either side of the fireplace. On the left side, on of the shelves has been turned into a small home office.
The living room is dotted with red and blue color pops in the storage furniture and home accessories. These colors really pop in an overall white space.
To make the home feel as spacious and light as possible, it has an open floor plan. The entrance alcove to the living room has been painted dark green for a natural color pop.
The hallway is fitted with terracotta floor tiles, which continue into the small kitchen on the other side of the apartment. Upon entry, floor-to-ceiling blue cabinets house the fridge and extra storage space.
The kitchen is tiny, but the sleek design makes the most of the limited space. The blue and red color scheme continues here with blue cupboards and red shelves that provide extra storage.
The color scheme is well thought out in this small apartment. In the hall and kitchen, we found terracotta tiles, and this love for terracotta returns in the bathroom, which is completely tiled in square terracotta colored tiles, and even the poured concrete sink has the same color. The wall-to-wall mirrors hide storage cabinets.
The bedroom is calm and bright, with white walls and minimalistic floor-to-ceiling wardrobes on one side. The high sash window flanked by shutters provides the room with plenty of natural light.
The apartment is listed for £595,000 at The Modern House.
