Original Details and a Modern Extension in a London House
When you look at the archive of Victorian houses posted on The Nordroom you may get the impression that almost every historic house has a modern extension. Today, I’m going to add another extended Victorian house to the list. It is no wonder, as Victorian rooms were often small, and nowadays, people crave more room and lighter spaces.
This Victorian house, located close to Hollow Ponds, beautifully blends original elements with a large extension to maximize space and create one big social living space for cooking, dining, and lounging.
When you enter the house, you first encounter the first living room, which is traditional with many original elements like the wooden floor, a box bay window, and a fireplace with an oak panel surround.
The hallway shows the history of the home with an ornate staircase, intricate detailing, and paneling, complemented by decorative cornice, original wood flooring, and cast-iron radiators.
Moving to the back of the house, you enter the grand social living space with a kitchen, dining table, and lounge corner. The room runs the entire width of the house and the Crittall windows flood the room with light and offer a connection to the garden.
The extension, designed in collaboration with Kent & London, features a classic Shaker-style kitchen painted in a muted gray-blue shade with open shelves above the countertop.
The island creates a perfect spot for breakfast and socializing.
The room offers space for a grand dining table and the skylights above the dining table and lounge make this room even lighter.
The powder room is decorated with the Blackthorn wallpaper from House of Hackney.
The gray master bedroom features custom-built wardrobes, cupboards, shelves, and drawers.
All three bedrooms on the first floor feature stripped floorboards and period details like cast-iron fireplaces.
The family bathroom features a cast iron fireplace, a black clawfoot bath in the center of the room, and a walk in shower.
The top floor houses a bedroom suite with smart wardrobes under the slanted ceiling and a gray and white bathroom.
The house is listed for £1,150,000 at Aucoot.
