Period Character and William Morris Wallpaper in a Romantic Stockholm Apartment

On the second floor of an Art Nouveau building in Stockholm’s Gamla Midsommerkransen area, this charming two-bedroom apartment is filled with period character and William Morris wallpapers.

The 68-square-meter apartment has been carefully renovated by its previous owners, creating a home that stands out thanks to their attention to detail, using materials and colors to preserve and restore the historic character and atmosphere.

Throughout the home, the walls are painted in ecological colors from Auro, paired with wallpapers from Morris & Co. Switches and electrical outlets in a turn-of-the-century style from Fontini have been added, as well as new window handles in period style to fully embrace the atmosphere of the beginning of the century.

I am in love with this kitchen! The kitchen cabinetry is from Snêk, a Swedish kitchen company that manufactures and builds traditional solid wood kitchens.

The gray-blue cabinets are paired with a solid wood countertop, a butler sink, and brass fittings.

A beautiful copper backsplash behind the Lacanche cooker adds warmth and depth. Shelves and knob boards provide extra storage space around all walls.

The wall behind the cabinets is painted in a soft pink hue, paired with greige woodwork. The wall opposite is decorated with the Mary Isobel wallpaper from William Morris. The door in the left corner hides a small pantry.

The floorboards have been painted with linseed oil paint in a gray-and-white checkerboard pattern.

Next to the living room lies the romantic living room with a tiled fireplace in the corner and pink walls.

The walls of the living room are painted in the lovely pink shade ‘Sidenväveriet’, paired with a light-pigmented board floor.

A shelf has been fitted above the wide doorway leading to the master bedroom, for books and decor.

A wide opening with sliding doors leads you to the apartment’s largest bedroom.

The bedroom also features a beautiful fireplace that was installed by the previous owner in 2022.

The floorboards and joinery are in the same style as the living room, but in the bedroom, they are paired with pea-green walls. The pink hue returns in the bedding and the sofa.

The spacious room features a large window, and there is room for a seating area and a desk. Just as the living room, the bedroom also has a bookshelf above the doorway.

The smaller bedroom is now a charming children’s room facing the courtyard. The walls are decorated with the ‘Golden Lily’ wallpaper from William Morris paired with a checkerboard-patterned floor, just as in the kitchen.

The bathroom is also decorated in a period style, featuring a shower, a Burlington toilet, a sink with a commode, and a heated towel rail. The walls are tiled with white tiles and a small decorative strip, and the floor features a black-and-white checkered pattern.

A wooden floor painted in a red and white checker pattern welcomes you into the apartment’s hallway.

Inside the front door is a cloakroom area with a hat rack and hook rail, and a wall-mounted shoe rack/cabinet. The hallway continues on the right into an inner hallway located between the two bedrooms.
