A Period-Style Kitchen is the Heart of the Home in this Swedish Apartment
On the top floor of an early 20th-century apartment building in Sweden’s second city, Gothenburg, lies this charming one-bedroom apartment with spacious rooms, period features, and a cozy kitchen.
The 67-square-meter apartment features period elements from the 1910s, such as high ceilings, a ceiling rosette, wooden floorboards, and large windows. These elements add a historic element to the interior spaces, and the kitchen, especially, is a wonderful room that leans into this turn-of-the-century style.

The living room is spacious and bright thanks to the large bay window. The wooden floorboards add a historic touch to the room while the walls are painted in a muted shade.

The bay window is turned into a wonderful home office/craft area with a custom-fitted desk under the window sills and two simple IKEA stools.

From the windows, you have a wonderful view of the historic buildings surrounding the apartment.

The living room is now only furnished with a seating area and a desk, but there is enough space for a dining area or a cozy reading nook by the bay window.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, where the period style truly shines.

The wooden floorboards are painted in a classic checkerboard pattern, while sand-colored paneling adds a warm atmosphere.

The kitchen cabinets feature classic gray cabinet doors with brass fittings and a dark-oiled wooden countertop with a butler sink.

The glass upper cabinets give a more open feeling to the kitchen style.

There is no dining table in the living room, as there is plenty of space in this kitchen. A round table, lighted by an &tradition pendant, sits in the center of the room, creating a natural gathering spot throughout the day.

On the other side, floor-to-ceiling cabinets hide the fridge and pantry, while the combination of lower drawers and glass upper cabinets forms the perfect spot for a coffee nook.

Just as in the other rooms, the apartment’s only bedroom is spacious and features the original wooden floorboards, which add character.

Two large windows flood the bedroom with natural light, while the wardrobe wall adds plenty of storage.

The bedroom offers a nice view of the early 20th-century buildings.

Red bookcases add a pop of color to the room, while the antique writing desk suits the original building style perfectly.

The hall is decorated with the retro “Eldblomman” wallpaper by Josef Frank.

The small bathroom is functional and bright. Fully tiled walls in light tones enhance light and space, and the subtle details in the interior allow the classic style of the rest of the apartment to take center stage.

The apartment is listed for sale at Stadshem.
