A Beautifully Renovated Dike House in The Netherlands

Along the river Vecht, in a green and quiet environment, you will find beautiful detached houses and houseboats. One of these houses is this 19th-century Dutch dike house that can be accessed via a private bridge on the dike.

When the current owners bought the house a couple of years ago, it needed much love and attention. They wanted to retain the “old soul” of the 1865 house by paying attention to details and craftsmanship while also adding modern amenities to make it comfortable.

The shutters, the forged lantern in the glass above the front door, stylish cutting joints and brickwork, and the beautiful moldings showcase the craftsmanship and history of this lovely home. The interiors are modern and comfortable, with high-class materials and moody color accents.

Through the front door, you access a long hallway with half-painted black walls and a checkerboard floor.

The first room on the ground floor is decorated as a home office, and the guest room has its own bathroom. The walls in the room are painted in a moody gray tone, paired with a blue ceiling, fireplace, and bookcases.

The bathroom is finished with marble and has a walk-in shower.

The left wing of the house is home to a grand living room with multiple seating areas. A large comfy sofa with a rug is placed in front of a custom television cabinet.

One wall is painted in a dark gray shade which adds a comfy atmosphere to the room.

Double gray pocket doors can close the living room off from the grand kitchen in the back of the house.

The room in the back spans the entire width of the home and gives access to the garden, which has views of the river. The 47m2 room is designed as a large kitchen and dining room with a beautiful wooden floor laid in a herringbone pattern.
