A Charming Swedish Cottage Decorated with Bold Colors and a Lush Garden
In a rural area southwest of the Swedish capital, Stockholm, lies this charming, traditionally Swedish holiday home with historic character and a lovely garden.
The house was built in the early 20th century and has undergone careful renovation over the years, preserving the cottage’s historic charm. The classic red cottage with white knots features a floor plan of 53 square meters, along with outbuildings that can also serve as a guest house.

You enter the home through a spacious hallway with red and white checkered painted floorboards, as well as windows in three directions that overlook the garden and the Swedish countryside.

The window sills and the vintage cabinet are decorated with plants, bringing the lush outdoors into the cottage. The staircase and joinery are painted in a soft butter-yellow shade, while the space under the stairs is used for storage, hidden by a flowing curtain.

The cottage living room features a low wooden ceiling and wooden floorboards. The walls are decorated with the green “Blomslinga” wallpaper from BorĂĄstapeter paired with joinery painted in a terracotta red shade.

The room is big enough for a comfortable seating area and a dining table. The windows with their red window frames overlook the lush garden.

A wood-burning fireplace in the corner of the room adds character and warmth to the space.

The cottage kitchen was renovated a couple of years ago, pairing green doors with black fittings, a butler sink, white backsplash tiles, and a wooden countertop.

In the corner of the kitchen, an old-fashioned stove adds historic character to the renovated space. The walls are decorated with a subtle wallpaper, and shelves add a nice lived-in atmosphere.

The ground floor is completed with a modern, renovated bathroom featuring white tiles, a mirror cabinet, and green window frames that add a nice color pop.

Upstairs are two bedrooms; the largest one, under the slanted ceilings, is now a combined master bedroom and nursery.

The bedroom is decorated with the ochre-yellow “Lycke Midsommar” wallpaper, and the ochre-yellow hue returns in the painted wooden ceiling.

The second bedroom is decorated in a subtle beige-hued wallpaper.

The house is situated on a 4,989-square-meter plot, featuring several patios and outbuildings, creating a quintessential Swedish summer idyll.

Surrounded by high trees, the house is very private and filled with greenery.

A yellow and red fence surrounds a vegetable garden, matching the color scheme of the interiors.

A charming tea house is a lovely spot to sit and relax, both in the Summer and the Winter.

One of the outbuildings is turned into a guest house with wood-paneled walls and twin beds.

The house is listed for sale at Svensk Fastighetsförmedling.
