A Victorian Family House With Period Features and Modern Design
This 19th-century townhouse is located in one of Frome’s finest areas overlooking Victoria Park and only minutes from the town’s center. The Victorian house, built in 1872, has undergone a careful reimagination, adding modern interiors to the historic architecture.
The four-bedroom, 1,980 sq ft home effortlessly pairs historical elements with modern designs. Mediterranean-inspired elements are paired with original period features and design light fixtures from Petite Fruiture, Flos, Tom Dixon, and Vitra.
The home is extended in the back with a glass-roofed extension overlooking the generous garden.

The stone facade features tall sash windows with distinctive stone dressings and leafy climbers.

The hall (with a glazed partition overlooking the living room) opens up into a double reception room with new wall paneling painted in a soft beige tone and oak floorboards laid in a chevron pattern.

The double living room features a sitting area in the front, featuring a carved marble fireplace salvaged from a London townhouse.

A steel-and-glass partition wall and door between the living room and the hall allows natural light to flow through the spaces while also adding a sense of volume.

The walls in the living room are painted in “Cloth” by Atelier Ellis.

The back area of the living room is designed as a cozy television room with a leather sofa and a large rug.

Glazed doors open into the space connecting the living room with the extended kitchen. The space is cleverly designed as a home office with a long built-in desk and bookshelves.

From the home office, you move into the wonderful extended kitchen and dining area. The room is fully painted in Farrow & Ball’s “Bancha.”

Bespoke plywood cabinetry by Bath Bespoke is topped with EcoStone work surfaces.

The dining area is fitted in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the garden. The area is heated by a suspended wood burner from Nordpeis.

On one side, floor-to-ceiling cabinets are painted the same green shade as the walls, and they also feature nice wooden openings for books and other small items.

The first and second floors are home to four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Both floors feature engineered oak flooring.

The master bedroom is located at the front of the plan, featuring tall sash windows overlooking the park. The walls are painted in “Joanna” by Little Greene, including the built-in wardrobes that run along one wall.

The house’s largest bathroom is located in the new extension. The magnificent room features a free-standing bathtub and a walk-in shower by Lusso, while Mandarin stone tiles lie underfoot.

The L-shaped glass panel stretches from the floor and up to the ceiling, not only flooding the room with natural light but also offering views of the surrounding greenery.

The top floor houses two more bedrooms with a shared Jack-and-Jill bathroom. Both bedrooms feature limited-edition murals by Nathalie Lété.

The kitchen’s glass doors open up to a paved patio, followed by a raised lawn with two century-old olive trees set within bespoke stone-built planters. At the far end is a storage shed and covered seating section

The house is listed for £1,100,000 at The Modern House.
