A Warm Beige Studio Apartment with a Butter-Yellow Kitchen

On the ground floor of a 1940s building in a quiet corner of the Södermalm area in Stockholm lies this charming studio apartment. The studio feels larger than its 25 square meters thanks to a good layout and built-in storage.

Elements from the 1940s have been preserved, meaning the small home has high ceilings, large, original windows, and built-in wardrobes, so the main room doesn’t have to be cluttered up with bulky furniture.

The color palette of beige, yellow, and red adds a warm and cozy ambiance to the studio apartment, and from the window in the main room, you have an unobstructed view of the street.

The main room has a good size and pairs warm beige walls with a matt-lacquered oak floor from 2023. In the corner, storage shelves have been added, which are cleverly hidden with floor-to-ceiling curtains.

The entire apartment is decorated in beige, red, and yellow shades. In the main room, it all comes together with the beige walls, yellow bedspread, and a checkered red rug that is similar to the kitchen floor.

The room is big enough for a double bed, a sofa, and a table, but the current owner opted for a less cluttered look by only adding a dining table and two midcentury cabinets. The doors on the right open to spacious built-in closets.

Despite being located on the raised ground floor, the apartment has a wonderful view of a quiet one-way street with historical buildings.

The kitchen was renovated in 23/24 in a style that suits the 1940s building period beautifully. The kitchen cabinets are from the IKEA METOD series, which are painted in a trendy butter-yellow shade.

The yellow cabinets are paired with a dark-stained oak countertop and white backsplash tiles. The walls and shelves are painted in the same yellow shade as the cabinets.

One wall is fitted with a double row of upper cabinets, utilizing the high ceilings. The other wall is equipped with shelves, so the small space doesn’t feel too cramped.

A vinyl checkerboard floor in red and white lies on the floor. A similar color and pattern as the rug in the main room.

The hall is a warm and sunny entry to the apartment. The walls are painted in a warm ochre shade, inspired by Italian facades in the afternoon sun. An Elfa system with yellow-painted shelves adds extra storage space.
