A Light-Filled 1920s Apartment with Two Spacious Balconies
On the top floor of a 1920s apartment building in Stockholm lies this charming two-bedroom apartment with light-filled rooms. The apartment has a wonderful layout with two bedrooms on one side, a spacious kitchen in the center, and a living room on the other. The home has two balconies on either side of the apartment, meaning you can follow the light when spending time outdoors.
The apartment pairs classic period charm with contemporary living. Original elements like preserved mirrored doors, moldings, ceiling rosettes, window espagnolettes, and a generous ceiling height add 1920s charm to the home, while a fresh color palette and contemporary furnishings bring the home to the 21st century.

The living room is located on one end of the house, with a spacious balcony running the entire width of the room, offering views of the 1920s rooftops and the church.

There is a semi-open-plan layout between the living room and kitchen, creating a wonderful sense of space and light between the rooms.

Even though the living room is pretty small, there is plenty of storage in the form of an original built-in cabinets and modern white cupboards.

The walls are decorated with a subtle light wallpaper that glimmers when the sun catches it.

The large balcony gets evening sun, so it’s a lovely extension to the living area in the summer months.

A wide arched doorway leads to the kitchen space in the center of the apartment.

The kitchen and dining room are the heart of the home and connect all the rooms in the apartment. Classic white cabinets are paired with a dark wooden countertop and white backsplash tiles.

An original serving pantry in the corner adds a little historic touch to the kitchen space. The glass doors lead to the smaller bedroom.

The tiny room is now turned into a kids bedroom, but it can also be a charming home office. The walls are painted in a dark gray shade, and the floorboards are dark stained, adding a warm touch to the room.

Next to the wardrobes, they added a teeny tiny built-in desk.

The apartment used to have an inner hall, which the owners added to the kitchen area, creating one social kitchen and dining room. From the kitchen, you can access both bedrooms and the living room.

The master bedroom is a sunny room with glass doors leading to another balcony offering views of the lush courtyard garden.

I love how green the communal gardens in Swedish apartment buildings are. It is so important to be surrounded by nature even when you live in a city.

One wall is decorated with a light wallpaper featuring blue and yellow color accents.

The owners made the most of the available space in the hallway. On one side, dark gray cabinets and a seating bench have been fitted against the wall, and the other side is fitted with floor-to-ceiling wardrobes with mirror doors, adding plenty of storage space.
