The 2027 Color of the Year Prediction: A Shift Toward More Expressive Colors?
The right color palette is perhaps the most defining feature of your interior. And even though you shouldn’t blindly follow trends, it is still nice to look at trending colors for new insights and inspiration when decorating your home.
I like to look at design and fashion color trends to see which colors will be most influential in the upcoming year. What is the 2027 color of the year going to be? That’s what we are going to find out!
The trending colors in design and fashion will be very visible in our lives, from the home decor available in stores to the fashion we want to wear.
In the last couple of years, the color trends have evolved from millennial pink to natural blue and green hues, toward jewel tones in more recent years. But which colors will dominate 2027?
WGSN and Coloro have already released their 2027 color of the year, and combined with runway insights from New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2026–2027, it reveals a palette that reflects a deeper cultural shift: the desire to balance innovation with grounding, digital life with nature, and seriousness with joy.
Did the Fashion World Predict the 2026 Color?
But first, let’s look back. Did the fashion color palettes match the trending color palette from all the leading paint companies?

In 2026, there was an overlap between the fashion color trends and the interior color trends. However, the most influential trending color is not visible in the fashion palette, namely Pantone’s “Cloud Dancer.”
We saw a trend where color experts were leaning into earthy neutrals, organic greens, and rich, restorative hues to create spaces that feel balanced, soulful, and deeply connected to the natural world.
However, surprisingly, the more vibrant (orange) pink hues were missing from the 2026 color palettes.
Blue is a Consistently Strong Color Choice in 2027
The first Color of the Year for 2027 has already been named: Luminous Blue, chosen by WGSN and Coloro. This vibrant, slightly electric blue reflects the growing influence of digital environments and immersive technologies. With a dynamic and futuristic quality, Luminous Blue captures both mystery and optimism.
Luminious Blue is paired with four strong colors in the 2027 color trends palette.

Energy Orange
Courageous, dynamic, and optimistic, Energy Orange strikes a balance between positive and practical. Provoking themes of rescue and repair, this shade embraces retro themes for furniture and lighting.
Pop Pink
Pop Pink is playful and empowered. With a comforting effect, you can expect to see this hyper-tactile hue in soft furnishings throughout the interior space.
Meadowland Green
A color categorised as balanced, serene, and safe, Meadowland Green has a nourishing quality that connects with nature.
Clay
Resilient and trusting, Clay is a dependable crowd pleaser that can be used to design for longer lifespans, bringing a sense of luxe futurism. For interiors, Clay will be drenched from floor to ceiling, leaning into its transformative and modern nature.

Blue was also the dominant color during London Fashion Week AW26/27. It wasn’t limited to a single hue; the entire blue spectrum, from soft blue to cobalt and dark blue, was prominent in the color choices.

It means we are still drawn to natural hues, and blue is a strong, consistently trending hue. In recent years, almost every leading paint brand has had a blue shade as its color of the year. Most recently, Dulux/Flexa chose blue as its 2026 color, but Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Glidden/PPG, and Valspar have also chosen blue as their trending color in recent years.
Bold, Vivid Shades Bring Joy and Contrast
When we look at the color trends from New York Fashion Week AW26/27, we see more expressive hues that I hope will also show up in interior design in 2027.

The NYFW Autumn/Winter 2026–2027 color palette balances understated luxury with modern energy. It reflects a dual desire: authenticity and subtlety alongside innovation and experimentation.
Earthy tones and thoughtful neutrals provide a grounded foundation, while bold, vivid shades introduce moments of contrast and excitement.

This season pairs comforting, effortless colors with dynamic tones that challenge the traditional autumn/winter palette. The result is a palette that honors authenticity while embracing creative freedom.

What is also evident from this color palette is that the neutrals have shifted from white, gray, and blue toward warmer tones such as beige and brown.

The colors that appear in both the Pantone and WGSN color palettes are clay, green (meadowland green and green envy), and pink.

You can’t go much wrong with pink, and according to the color trend forecast, we can look forward to a variety of pink shades, from a warm pink hue like foxglove to WGSN’s Pop Pink, and a bold pink hue like fuchsia.

Bold pink hues, such as fuchsia, are great as color pops in decor like mirrors, lighting, rugs, or art.

This warm yellow-green, like Pantone’s ‘green envy’, is such a versatile color. It can be used as a classic hue in a country-style kitchen or as a warm accent color in textiles. Or how about this color for bathroom tiles?

Burnt olive is a rich, layered green tone imbued with subtle sophistication. This hue works perfectly as a base color on the walls or for a sofa.

The aquatic green with a retro vibe from the New York palette looks great in combination with softer colors. Think outside the box and add this fresh shade to your joinery.

Yellow with a green undertone adds brightness without being too overwhelming.
What Will Be The 2027 Color?
The forecast shows that we are heading toward more expressive colors in 2027. Even though blue remains a strong and widely used contender, I do hope that paint brands opt for a bolder, more vibrant shade in 2027. As already mentioned, blue has been a much-chosen Color of the Year, and I (and I’m sure many others) hope for more variety.
The same counts for browns and greens in my opinion. While beautiful and versatile in their various forms, I feel like green and brown tones are great as a neutral base, but not as a trending color.
So what does The Nordroom choose for the 2027 Color of the Year? Based on the palette I have created, my eye is drawn to three warm, expressive colors that are a bit different from what we have seen in previous years.
I would include the yellow, as no paint brand (except Dulux) has chosen it as its Color of the Year, but I can hardly call it a trend-setting color anymore, as I feel yellow has been very prominent in the design world in recent years.

I snuck in the two pink hues as I find pink is long overdue for a color of the year. And I added the warm yellow-green hue, which I think is a fantastic color accent, but it is also a fabulous color for kitchens (especially countryside kitchens). It’s a warm hue that is not as neutral as brown or beige, and a nice change from the greens and blues that we have seen so much in recent years.
After the Summer, we will see what the leading paint brands have chosen for their color of the year and color trends 2027. Make sure to check to subscribe to The Nordroom’s newsletter to get the latest color and interior inspiration, as well as beautiful home tours.
