Cozy Spaces and Unique Historical Elements in a Stockholm Apartment
On the top floor of a turn-of-the-century apartment building in Stockholm’s Södermalm area lies this beautiful one-bedroom apartment, where the historic character is evident, creating cozy, inviting interior spaces.
Historic character is an element that makes any home feel instantly homely. In this 570 sq ft apartment, turn-of-the-century elements such as two tiled fireplaces, large windows with deep niches, wooden floorboards, and an old kitchen stove beautifully showcase the apartment’s history.

The apartment is laid out in an L-shape with the open-plan living room and kitchen on one side and the bedroom on the other side of the central hall.

The sitting area is a cozy spot with green walls, wooden floors, and the original kakelugn in the corner, adding warmth and atmosphere in the evenings.

The interiors are a fantastic mix of styles that add personality to the spaces. In the living room, a midcentury sofa is paired with vintage elements and rustic wood.

On the opposite side, the green color scheme continues with a rich green sofa, green velvet curtains, green pendants in front of the window, and plants on the window sills.

The apartment has an open living room layout, but the wide opening allows for just enough separation between the spaces, making it social yet with distinctively separate functions.

The apartment has an unusual angled layout, which is also reflected in the wooden floorboards laid at an angle, creating a unique floorboard pattern in the kitchen.

The IKEA and Decoform kitchen cabinets suit the original building style perfectly. The gray cupboards are paired with a wooden countertop and classic white backsplash tiles.

The round wooden table with bistro chairs becomes the natural gathering point in the apartment.

On the other side of the table, history shows itself beautifully. The old wood stove has been preserved together with the old marble kitchen bench and the built-in pantry.

On the other side of the hall lies the apartment’s only bedroom. This room also has an angled layout, adding to the historic charm of the apartment.

Warm beige walls are paired with various blue tones in the headboard, bedspread, and velvet curtains.

Another tiled fireplace stands in the corner of the room, adding historic charm.

The angled wall is fitted with white wardrobes. The art above the vintage cabinet is from Desenio.

The bedroom opens onto a courtyard balcony. Thanks to the apartment’s high location, you can see the sky and the beautiful, colored buildings surrounding the courtyard.

The hall has extra space and a window which can be used as a home office, a craft space, or a reading nook. The hall features a stone floor in a classic pattern with frieze.
