An Earthy Color Palette and Exposed Brick in a 1940s Apartment
This charming two-bedroom apartment is located on the second floor of a 1940s apartment building in the Swedish city of Gothenburg. The 64 square meter apartment features typical 40s elements like the parquet floor, limestone windowsills, and high ceilings.
The apartment is decorated in warm, muted shades like sand, dusty pink, and blue tones, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere throughout the interior rooms.

The living room is an inviting space with the original 1940s parquet floor, restored original windows, and a balcony.

The walls are painted in Jotun’s “Sand” color, creating a neutral yet warm atmosphere, especially in combination with the parquet floor and wooden dining table and chairs.

The room is big enough for a large dining table surrounded by traditional Tonet chairs. Narrow ledges on the wall (painted in the same color) are a nice way to showcase books and art.

The kitchen was recently renovated and is now a charming space that you’d love to spend time in. The IKEA cabinets are painted in Jotun’s “Pine Shadow,” and they are paired with a white-oiled beech countertop.

The walls in the kitchen are painted in “Desert Pink” by Jotun.

String shelves instead of upper cabinets help to create an open and airy feeling in the kitchen. It also allows you to display your favorite glassware and crockery.

In the corner of the room stands a typical midcentury extendable Formica dining table.

The master bedroom pairs raw elements with soft color hues. An exposed brick wall meets pine floorboards, pink bedding, and walls painted in “Washed Linen” by Jotun.

A small walk-in wardrobe is fitted with handing rods, shelves, and a low storage cabinet.

The largest bedroom is divided into two rooms with a partition wall that is built to let through natural light via the top windows.

The first part of the room is now used as a children’s bedroom, with wooden bunk beds, a bamboo IKEA desk, and storage made of stacked IKEA Ivar cabinets.

The second part of the room is used as a home office/sewing room. The walls are painted in “Deep Paris”.

The bathroom was renovated two years ago with half-tiled white walls and a dusty pink (“Soft Skin”) upper part. The floor is laid with tiles in a muted green tone, laid in a herringbone pattern.

The apartment was listed for sale at Nya Kvadrat – photography by Angelica Hvass.
