A Farrow & Ball Palette in an Art Nouveau Stockholm Apartment
This one-bedroom apartment in a beautiful Art Nouveau building in the Östermalm area in Stockholm was originally built as a bachelor’s apartment in the early 20th century. These apartments were common in this period and were inhabited by unmarried men from the bourgeoisie.
The apartments were smaller than average homes, but they were still stately with high ceilings. Many original elements, like the high ceilings, but also the stucco, herringbone parquet, chest panels, double mirror doors, beautiful door lintels, and tall original windows have been preserved.
Typically, these apartments didn’t have a kitchen. The bachelor’s ate outside or had food delivered. In this apartment, the kitchen was only added in 2021(!) by using part of the entry hall.

The 56 square meter apartment has a spacious living room with plenty of original elements, like the herringbone parquet floor, high windows, high baseboards, and double doors.

The entire apartment is painted in a stunning palette of Farrow & Ball colors. In the living room, they opted for a muted gray-green hue (French Grey) that changes in the light.

The room is big enough for a comfortable seating area and a dining table. The round table is surrounded by classic Cesca chairs designed by Marcel Breuer.

The bedroom is located in the corner room and features large windows in two directions.

The walls are painted in Farrow & Ball’s Light Blue shade.

One side is fitted with floor-to-ceiling wardrobes. The hall in the back, leading to the bathroom, is painted in Farrow & Ball’s Picture Gallery Red.

As mentioned, the entry hall was fitted with a kitchen in 2021. The kitchen design is simple with sleek white cabinets, a marble backsplash, and integrated SMEG appliances.

The walls are painted in Lancaster Yellow by Farrow & Ball.

The wall opposite the kitchen is fitted with floor-to-ceiling wardrobes. Next to the wardrobes is a small hat rack for shoes and bags.

The small bathroom was also renovated in 2021. The entire room is clad in marble tiles, with a slightly lighter hue on the floor.

Apartment buildings aren’t built like this anymore. The central staircase in the Art Nouveau building is reason enough to buy this charming home.
