A Colorful 1940s Apartment in Stockholm
On the second floor of a 1940s apartment building in Stockholm lies this charming one-bedroom apartment with preserved elements from the middle of the previous century and colorful decor.
The 44-square-meter apartment is decorated with a wonderful color palette, using calm colors on the walls paired with vibrant pops in textiles, art, and furniture.
As with all apartments built in this period, the home features large, wonderful windows that let in plenty of light and offer lovely views of the greenery outside.

The living room is a light and charming space with walls painted in a light beige tone (Bellini by Alcro), which makes the colorful decor stand out nicely.

The room features the original Ã…rsta parquet floor from the 1940s, adding historic character to the modern-designed space.

The room has a practical square layout with plenty of space for a dining table and a comfortable seating area.

The living room opens onto a balcony surrounded by greenery. A lovely view in every season of the year.

While the base interior (beige walls, a gray sofa, and a wooden table) is neutral, this is paired with charming pastel color pops like a light yellow coffee table and pastel cushions. An easy way to create a colorful home.

The terracotta hue of the bookcase returns in the doorframe, creating a cohesive color look.

From the living room, you move into the bedroom space that is painted in a moody gray-brown hue, creating a cozy cocoon.

The aubergine-colored bedding enhances the cozy cocooning atmosphere, while the cobalt blue accents add a bright color pop.

From the hall, you move into the kitchen, which is a treasure from the 1940s. It features a large number of cabinets and drawers in a slightly unusual composition, topped with a stainless steel sink and a formica worktop.

Storage space has been maximized by adding cabinets that run toward the ceiling.

A former door between the kitchen and the bedroom is now used as storage, painted in the lovely terracotta-pink hue seen throughout the apartment.

Access to the kitchen is through this original (space-saving) sliding door.

The simple bathroom is designed using white and light blue tiles paired with a nice zebra shower curtain.

The hall is a warm welcome to the home. The walls are painted in a soft apricot color (Pinje by Alcro) while the door linings are painted in a terracotta/coral tone called Muted Coral from Jotun.
The terracotta hue continues in the joints of the original tiled floor. The hall features two smaller built-in closets as well as a large walk-in wardrobe that can also be turned into a home office, as it has a window.
