A New Period-Style Kitchen and Bathroom in a Turn-of-the-Century Apartment
On the third floor of a turn-of-the-century apartment building in Södermalm, Stockholm, lies this charming two-bedroom apartment, renovated with care and attention to its original features.
The apartment features beautiful period elements, such as large windows, serving cabinets, and built-in storage, and the new additions, such as the kitchen and bathroom, are designed in a style that matches the building’s period.

The apartment is situated in a corner position, and the living room has windows facing three directions, letting in wonderful natural light.

The room is centered on a bookcase built into one wall, adding storage and a personal vibe.

The curved wall adds a nice architectural element to the living room. This space is used as a dining area, with plenty of room for a large table.

The light pink hue on the walls adds a soft color touch to the room, while also highlighting the joinery and the hand-carved covers under the windows.

The apartment’s large bedroom has been divided into two equally sized rooms. The first bedroom can be accessed via the living room. The walls are painted in a pleasant gray-blue shade.

There is space for a desk in front of the large windows with far-reaching views.

This bedroom also has a small, original built-in corner wardrobe.

About Södermalm – Stockholm
Södermalm (or Söder in short) is an island just south of Stockholm’s Old Town (Gamla Stan). It has transformed from an impoverished area at the beginning of the 20th century into the most trendy neighborhood in Stockholm (and one of the coolest areas in the world, according to Vogue).
What to do: Södermalm is known for its cozy cafés, restaurants, and shops (including many vintage shops such as Beyond Retro and Grandpa). The island also offers beautiful views from the city. Walk up on Mariaberget or Skinnarviksberget and snap a picture of Sweden’s most beautiful city, or go for a swim at Långholmen.
Museums: Fotografiska Museum, Stockholm City Museum
You can take a guided 2-hour tour of Södermalm to fully immerse yourself in this trendy area. And if you’re interested in the brewery history, take a guided walk that includes a beer tasting at a secret location.
Where to stay: Stockholm Stadshotell, Hotel Frantz, NoFo Hotel

The kitchen is (in my opinion) the most beautiful room in the house. Two large windows add a bright atmosphere, while the earthy-pink hue on the walls adds warmth.

The interior was built on site by Kulladal Kök and designed with great care to harmonize with the year the house was built.

The classic mirror doors, solid wood work surfaces, and white tiles above the benches create a kitchen that feels both timeless and functional.

The built-in serving cabinet adds to the turn-of-the-century feel of the kitchen, matching the original cabinets in the hall.

The second bedroom is a serene space with enough room for a double bed and a long inner window allowing natural light to flow from the first bedroom into the second.

The renovated bathroom is designed to harmonize with the home’s architecture and enhance the turn-of-the-century-inspired feel. Classic white tiles and a checkerboard floor are paired with a small, freestanding bath and a classic sink.

In the hall, built-in wardrobes are designed in a turn-of-the-century style.

More built-in storage is added by the front door, featuring closed cabinets paired with shelves to store shoes and other smaller items.
