A 1930s Green-Painted Wooden Family Home in Sweden
Just south of Stockholm lies this beautiful family home with period details, wallpapers, and colorful children’s rooms. Even though the house was built in the 1930s, it was designed in the classicist style of the 1920s, which was very popular for Swedish villas in those years. Luckily, many period elements have been preserved.
Over the years, the villa has been renovated with respect for its origins and preserves many fine original details. A new country-style kitchen was added a couple of years ago, which pairs effortlessly with original elements like the wooden floor, original ceiling, and slatted windows.
There’s a wonderful open floorplan on the ground floor, creating spacious social spaces that are perfect for family life.
The kitchen is the heart of the home. It features a site-built country kitchen with wooden cupboards from Lindalsköket painted in a light green linseed oil color. These are paired with a worktop in Öland limestone and a stainless sink.
The kitchen has a small pantry, fitted with shelves and decorated in the ‘Jordgubben’ wallpaper from Borastapeter.
The kitchen features an old cast-iron wood-burning stove.
Mirror folding doors separate the kitchen/dining room from the ground-floor living room. The room is decorated in a charming antique style with brown William Morris “Pimpernel” wallpaper.
The ground floor also features a bathroom with red and white hexagon floor tiles, a freestanding bath, and a separate shower with green tiles.
On the first floor are three bedrooms and a second sitting room. The master bedroom, with its dormer window, is decorated in a green and blue floral wallpaper.
Between the bedrooms lies a charming room with colorful wallpaper and red bookshelves that is used as a reading/television room
The room is decorated in the retro Miro wallpaper from Sanderson.
This floor has two bedrooms for teenagers. Both rooms are painted a deep blue and feature built-in wardrobes.
The hallway is a beautiful historic entry to the home with the original wooden ceiling, Victorian floor tiles from Byggfrabriken, and dark floral wallpaper from Sandberg.
