A Beautiful Midcentury Family Home South of Stockholm
Just south of central Stockholm stands this beautiful midcentury family home with renovated interiors that respect the original architecture of the villa. The house was completed in 1950, and its midcentury vibe has been preserved over the years.
The house was renovated in 2022, creating modern open-plan spaces and adding contemporary features while maintaining the charming midcentury feeling of the Scandinavian house.
The upper floor is the social floor of the house, with an open-plan living room, kitchen, and two bedrooms. A new parquet floor has been laid throughout the house, which complements the midcentury architecture extremely well.
The kitchen from Skandinaviska Shaker is designed in a shaker style with pine cabinets that are painted in linseed oil. The walls in the kitchen are painted in ‘White Heather’ from Jotun.
The low cabinets on one side are paired with a wooden worktop, classic white backsplash tiles, and a wooden shelf. On the other side, the fridge is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling cabinets, providing plenty of storage space.
The custom-made, three-part, and fully glazed teak door section in the kitchen opens to a large terrace in the garden.
A large dining table separates the kitchen from the living room. This layout creates a social space where you can cook and socialize at the same time.
The brick fireplace with a wood burner sits in the corner between the sitting area and the dining area.
The living room has windows on three sides, so sunlight flows into the room throughout the day. The room also opens to the balcony with wrought iron railings above the front door.
The master bedroom is located on the lower floor. The room is painted in a dull pink shade, creating a soft ambiance and features built-in wardrobes on one side.
The same custom-made doors that we saw in the kitchen are also added to the master bedroom to connect the room with the garden.
The top floor of the house (with the open-plan living space) is also home to this grand children’s bedroom and play area. The room has been opened up to create a sleeping area with two twin beds on one side and a play area on the other.
The room features built-in wardrobes, and the passageway between the rooms is fitted with shelves. The rooms are painted in ‘Peignoir’ by Farrow and Ball.
A smaller bedroom on the lower floor is painted in ‘French Gray’ by Farrow and Ball.
The family home features a grand hallway with built-in wardrobes and a brick fireplace. The floor is covered with oak parquet in a Dutch joint, and the walls are painted in the color “Scandinavian Light” from Jotun.
