A Grand Family Home in a Former Swedish Doctor’s Villa
Älmsta is a small countryside villa close to the city of Stockholm. In the early 20th century, no doctor lived in the area, so the community came together and decided to build a large ‘doctor’s villa’ to create housing and a practice for the local doctor. This former 1920s doctor’s villa is now a lovely family home with grand rooms, original elements, and a large garden.
The well-preserved ‘functionalist’ villa lies in a high location, offering wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, and it has a floorplan of 344 square meters. Inside, you will find grand rooms with period design paired with contemporary elements. It has a wraparound terrace and a large garden.
The entrance floor features the living spaces as well as the former doctor’s practice, but I will only show the living areas.
The ground floor features a beautiful parquet floor laid in a herringbone pattern. The sitting room has a charming reading spot with corner bookshelves and a fireplace.
Sliding doors separate the sitting room from the dining room. When opened, it creates a wonderful feeling of space and light.
The dining room is decorated with a pretty golden yellow floral wallpaper and the room also gives access to the outdoor terrace.
Entry to the kitchen area is via this hall with original built-in cabinets.
The house has a charming country-style kitchen with rustic wooden floorboards, tongue and groove paneling, and a sink under the window.
The kitchen cabinets and wall paneling are painted in the same green shade, paired with a wooden countertop and wooden shelves.
On the other side is a modern cooking area with classic white tiles.
A charming breakfast area has been created under the window, featuring a vintage wooden bench with patterned cushions and a classic vintage Scandinavian table.
One of the former doctor’s rooms is turned into a charming home office with blue wallpaper.
The hall is fitted with built-in wardrobes and glass doors leading to the terrace.
The first floor landing is decorated with the Katarina Brown wallpaper by Sandberg.
There are five spacious bedrooms on the first floor. The master bedroom is painted in a soft yellow hue and offers wonderful views of the surroundings.
The children’s room is decorated with the My Kingdom Cute Animals wallpaper by Dutch Wallcoverings.
The house has a classic bathroom with white tiles and a freestanding bath.
The house lies on a plot that offers a harmonious mix of forest land, grassy areas, agricultural land, and a park environment with lush social areas.
