A Beautiful Turn-of-the-Century Family Home in Sweden
It is only January, but I know that this will be one of my favorite homes of the year. This turn-of-the-century villa just outside Stockholm still has the charm and historical details from when the house was built in 1909.
The house is situated on a hill, surrounded by orchards, and inside, you will find cozy rooms, preserved details, high ceilings, and large windows. The home is carefully renovated, and a new kitchen was added in 2023 in an old-fashioned style, blending in with the house’s architecture.
Pour yourself a cup of tea and enjoy the many pictures of this charming family home. And the fact that it is still decorated for Christmas makes this home even cozier.

It is almost as if time has stood still in this home. The exterior and interior are almost the same as when the house was built over a century ago. Many original details have been preserved, and the original floor plan creates social and flowing interior spaces.
The living room is a charming and light space thanks to the three large windows and the original ceiling with decorative panels that give the space extra character.
The walls are painted in ‘School House White’ by Farrow & Ball.
In the corner of the room stands a beautiful green tiled fireplace, adding even more coziness to the already charming space.
Sliding gray doors separate the living room from the dining room. When opened, it creates a large social living space with windows in two directions.
With windows on two sides, the dining room is light in Spring and Summer and cozy in winter. The walls are painted in ‘Light Gray’ by Farrow & Ball.
This room also features a tiled fireplace with intricate painted ornaments.
It looks like this kitchen has always stood in this home, but it is actually a new addition from 2023. The old-fashioned kitchen with mirrored doors is made by Kulladal and pairs solid wood with stone countertops.
The walls, including the tongue-and-groove paneling, are painted in ‘White Tie’ from Farrow & Ball.
In the center of the room is plenty of space for a large dining table. The owners added a rustic vintage farm-style table with green chairs, adding to the historic vibe of the home.
In the corner stands an old-fashioned wood-burning stove with a niche for wood. It’s a charming detail and shows the history of the house.
Attached to the kitchen is the ‘kitchen entrance,’ which has been transformed into a charming garden room with a rustic plank floor and tongue and groove paneling painted in an ochre yellow shade. This room also gives access to the garden.
On the ground floor, you can also find this charming home office with walls painted in Farrow and Ball’s ‘School House White,’, and the site-built bookcase is painted in ‘Studio Green.’
The entrance hall is a welcoming space where the walls are painted white, and the woodwork is painted in ‘Light Gray’ by Farrow and Ball. The iron stove in a decorative mantel adds historical charm.
The ground floor has a simple bathroom with white half-tiles and graphite gray floor tiles.
The curved staircase leads up to the upper hall with white-painted walls and a charming niche that used to house an iron stove.
The upstairs living room is the same size as the downstairs one. The walls are painted in a gray-green shade and one wall is fitted with bookshelves.
A sliding door opens into the master bedroom with a slanted ceiling and subtle gray wallpaper. The colored textiles and wooden floorboards create a cozy ambiance.
A stunning family bathroom lies on the first floor with walls painted in ‘Studio Green’ by Farrow and Ball paired with classic white tiles. The bathroom has a shower behind the wall and a freestanding bath.
The walnut bathroom vanity is from Superfront, which is paired with a designer sink and a stone worktop.
There are two more bedrooms on the first floor, both are decorated with wallpaper.
The park-like garden has mature apple and plum trees, lush greenery, beautiful flowers, and a vegetable garden.
The house is surrounded by large pine trees, creating a private feel to the home and garden.
