This Iconic and Best-Selling IKEA Dresser is Leaving Stores for Good
For nearly a quarter of a century, one piece of IKEA furniture has quietly become a design staple in homes across the world. Simple, functional, affordable, and versatile, this iconic dresser has anchored almost every room in the house.
But now, that era is coming to a close.
This summer, IKEA will say farewell to the classic MALM chest of drawers that almost everyone in the world has owned at some point in their life (this reader included).

Since its launch in 2002, the MALM series has been more than just storage. It has served students in small dorms (even creating loft beds with them), families in growing homes, and lovers of Scandinavian design who are looking for a sleek and stylish storage piece.
With over 160 million units sold globally, the dresser earned its place as one of IKEA’s most successful products ever.

The appeal of the MALM dresser lies in its simplicity: clean lines, neutral colors or wood veneer, and a design that fits almost anywhere.
The decision to discontinue the MALM dresser comes as part of IKEA’s ongoing effort to refresh its product range. According to statements from the Swedish retail giant, the company regularly evaluates its offerings to better match evolving customer preferences.

The phase-out will begin this summer, with the remaining stock sold until it runs out. After that, the MALM dresser will officially be retired and replaced by a new, yet-to-be-revealed line.
“Malm is more than just a chest of drawers; it has become a part of everyday life and the home of countless families. It has followed people through different phases of life and has been there in both chaotic and calm periods. It is the kind of relationship that you don’t just say goodbye to but pause for a moment,” says Rikke Andersen, press manager at IKEA.

While nothing has been said yet about the replacement of the MALM dresser, we can be sure it is going to be stylish, functional, and typically Scandinavian in style. And we will share the news as soon as possible.
For now, run to the stores if you have always wanted a MALM dresser but never got around to buying one. Because soon it will be too late. Click here for the latest IKEA news.
