A Carefully Selected Color Palette in an 18th-Century English Cottage
Is there anything better than a historic English cottage? Today, I want to share this lovely early 18th-century cottage in Oxfordshire. The charming cottage is located in the charming market town Woodstock, on the edge of the Blenheim Palace grounds.
The charming cottage has cozy interiors where the owners used beautiful Farrow and Ball, Little Greene, and Edward Bulmer shades that complement the historic bones of the old cottage perfectly. The blend of contemporary and historic elements is best seen in the kitchen. This bright space features an ochre yellow farmhouse-style kitchen with a Dutch door opening to the garden.
The front door opens into the living room with a sisal carpet and a low ceiling with exposed wooden beams. The room is centered around a beautiful green fireplace mantel inlaid with charming 18th-century reclaimed Delft tiles in a “springer” motif.
The original window next to the front door is turned into a charming window seat with a soft green cushion.
At the back of the cottage lies this charming glazed kitchen space, creating a wonderful light room. The kitchen cabinets by George Fisher Woodwork are painted in Farrow and Ball’s ‘India Yellow’ and topped with a reclaimed Iroko countertop.
The backsplash is made of cream butt-and-bead paneling and the pendant lights are by deVOL Kitchens.
A large wooden table sits on the other side of the kitchen, and underfoot lie charming quarry tiles.
The stable door gives access to the small back garden.
On the first floor are two charming bedrooms, one is painted in a light blue shade and the other is light pink.
The light pink bedroom has an exposed wooden beam, adding a little character to the space. The deep niche by the small window is turned into a charming window seat.
The bathroom has blush pink painted floorboards and wallpaper by Ottoline deVries. The green-painted staircase gives access to the attic floor where the master bedroom can be found.
The master bedroom has charming slanted ceilings, but with windows in two directions, the room is wonderfully bright. The floorboards are painted green, just like the staircase that gives access to this floor.
The house was listed for £550,000 at Inigo.
