A Charming Home in a 17-Century Apartment in Stockholm’s Old Town
Have you ever been to Stockholm? If you have, you’ve probably visited the city’s Old Town (or Gamla Stan in Swedish). This charming area in the center of the city houses the Royal Palace and charming cobbled streets with colorful old buildings.
In a 17th-century building in this historic quarter lies this charming apartment with light rooms, a soft color palette, and layered textiles that create cozy and inviting living spaces.
Unusual for a home in the Old Town of Stockholm is that this apartment is very light thanks to the high windows in three directions. You are surrounded by history in this home. The beautiful wooden floorboards, charming windows, and aged surfaces tell you about the many generations that lived here.
Warm wooden floorboards, bookshelves, a wood burner, cozy textiles in a variety of patterns, and light pink walls create a cozy atmosphere in the charming living room.
Two large windows with deep window niches make the room airy and light. One of the things that make this room so homely is all the different textiles. There are various patterns, colors, and styles, but somehow, it all works together.
A warm glow comes from the wood burning stove in the room, making the room ever more cozy in the evening.
Double wooden doors separate the kitchen from the living room.
The kitchen is a wonderful room with William Morris wallpaper, a large table with an antique bench, and two arched, leaded, and colored windows.
The classic white kitchen cabinets are designed around the two masterpieces in this room. The arched windows add a unique element to the room.
Sit in front of the big windows and look over the cobbled street below. The kitchen is a wonderful social space thanks to the large table with a seating bench packed with cushions.
The master bedroom is painted in a soft light blue shade, paired with a light carpet and two large windows creating an airy ambiance.
The room behind the kitchen is turned into a walk-in closet by the current owners.
The third bedroom is a charming home office with a desk under the window and built-in wardrobes. The walls are decorated with the ‘Liljer’ (beige/blue) wallpaper from Lim & Handtryck.
The spacious hall has a niche used as coat and shoe storage, which is hidden by a patterned curtain (‘Bramble’ by William Morris). The walls are decorated with the ‘Rosehip’ wallpaper from William Morris.
