Color and Graphic Design in the Home of a Dutch Interior Stylist
According to Dutch interior stylist Theo-Bert Pot, houses should be decorated with color. Therefore, in his own The Hague apartment, you won’t find a single white wall. Instead, you are welcomed by colorful walls and ceilings, various wallpapers, graphic tiles, and a pink bath.
The colorful apartment is located on the third floor of a late 1920s corner building. The apartment was in pretty bad shape when Theo-Bert and his partner bought it only a few years ago. They completely renovated the home, knocking down walls to create bright open spaces and adding loads of color on the walls and the decor.
The result of the renovation is simply magnificent. despite the open layout, every corner is cozy thanks to layered textiles and the clever use of paint and wallpaper. I cannot choose a favorite room in this house as they’re all so beautiful.
The open plan living space is decorated in a winning pink and green color combination. They wanted to add a classic element and break the long wall so Theo-Bert’s partner designed a fireplace mantel with storage behind it.
The walls in the sitting room are painted in Flexa’s ‘Full Plum’ and the ceiling is painted in ‘Lush River’ by the same brand.
The kitchen is placed centrally in the living space. The green and pink color scheme continues with beautful glossy green tiles in the arch that houses the cooker.
The kitchen island is made from antique transparent base cabinets, the marble worktop is lighted from underneath.
On the left of the steel glass door you can see pink built in cabinets that house the fridge.
Opposite the kitchen, they created a cozy breakfast nook with a built in window bench with green cushions and a round table.
The round table by Maison Sarah Lavoine has a green marble top paired with a rattan foot. A wonderful combination you don’t often see.
The window seat is completed with the Bellagio wallpaper from Glamora that brings the outdoors in.
The dining area has a blue feature wall with built in cabinets. On the floor lies a shag rug from HK Living.
They also love a graphic touch to their interior. The dining area is spruced up with the ‘La Maison’ wallpaper from Pierre Frey. The glass doors aren’t original to the house, they thrifted these doors to break up the space and create a private bedroom area.
The sober colors in the bedroom create a cozy atmosphere, but I love how they also added vibrant color pops with yellow in the accessories and a colorful curtain in front of the doors to the dining room.
The arch is such a simple but effective way to create a unique feature wall in the bedroom.
A little reading nook has been created in the corner. The curtain is fabric from Pierre Grey called ‘La Toile du Peintre’.
The bathroom is a magnificent space. The walls are painted in ‘Full Plum’ by Flexa which is paired with a graphic black and white floor, a pink bath, and ochre shower tiles.
The Arqua freestanding bath is a statement piece in the bathroom.
Pink and green is the main color combination in this house as you can also see in the bathroom whcih features a green marble sink.
On the floor lies the KELLY handmade concrete tiles in Milk and Kohl from Popham Design.
The shower is tiled with ochre tiles from File Under Pop.
The guest bedroom/reading room is a cozy small room with green walls, a daybed, and shelves.
The entire renovation project was documented on the instagram page of Theo-Bert, so if you want to see how they transformed this space into a bold, colorful home you should check out his posts.
