Colorful Contemporary Interiors in a 1930s Spanish House

Nestled in the historic center of Sarrià, a small town in the northwestern part of Spain, this meticulously restored home seamlessly marries classic elegance with contemporary, colorful interiors.

Originally constructed in 1936 and completely updated in 2021, the residence spans two levels, offering a generous open-plan living space on the ground floor, three bedrooms, a private garden, and a terrace.

After entering the home, you walk into a grand open-plan living space that runs the entire length of the house, opening into a private walled garden.

The entire home features a beautiful color palette. The open-plan living space is color-drenched in a dark blue shade, paired with an ochre sofa, terrazzo bench, pink tiles, and a red dining table.

The pink outer walls also add a nice color pop to the view from the large floor-to-ceiling windows.

The dining area, defined by a large pink rug, sits between the sitting area and the kitchen. The kitchen is partially hidden from view thanks to the custom bookcase doorway.

The kitchen cabinets continue into the dining area, and the same wood is also used for the home office and built-in cabinets.

built-in home office

The little niche next to the cabinets that are fitted under the stairs is turned into a smart home office with a bookshelf and a tiny window looking out into the patio.

I adore the ground-floor layout of this Spanish home. It is open, creating a social atmosphere, but the kitchen is smartly hidden from view by a beautiful floor-to-ceiling bookcase. The dark wooden cabinets are paired with pink tiles and a stainless steel countertop.

The goldish-yellow floor color from the living area continues upward on the stairs.

A second home office is created in the staircase’s balustrade on the first-floor landing, using the same golden-yellow hue for the desktop as the stairs.

The first floor has three bedrooms. The master suite has its own bathroom and dressing room and opens to a large roof terrace.

The master suite bathroom is painted in a beautiful terracotta pink shade, mimicking the shade of the outdoor walls. It has a walk-in shower, a double sink, and a door leading to the roof terrace.

One of the bedrooms is turned into a charming children’s bedroom with half-painted ochre yellow walls.
