A Cozy 1920s Apartment with Original Details and Wallpaper
This charming family apartment, featuring soft color tones and William Morris wallpapers, is located in a 1920s apartment complex in Stockholm. The apartment features two balconies and a large inner hall, which is now used as a second bedroom, but it could also be a great reading room or home office.
The apartment features many beautiful original elements from the 1920s, such as mirrored doors, kitchen cupboards, slatted windows and balcony doors, and wooden and parquet floors. This family apartment is wonderfully cozy, the historic features, color combinations, vintage furnishings, and wallpapers create a wonderful home in the city.
The living room, with a balcony facing the street, is decorated with William Morris ‘Compton’ wallpaper, and the wooden floor adds a warm glow to the room.
“Compton was originally designed as wallpaper by J.H. Dearle in 1895 for Compton Hall in Wolverhampton, the country home of Laurence Hodson. It bears all the hallmarks of a classic Dearle pattern, and the two colorways hark back to the original.”
The wallpaper inspires the room’s color palette, creating a harmonious look, as you can see in the textiles in pink and green tones paired with a complimenting yellow shade.
The other walls are painted in a matching gray-green shade.
A door with slatted glass leads into a charming kitchen with space for a kitchen table and chairs. The room features an original corner cabinet preserved together with a kitchen bench with a marble top in front of the window.
The original cupboards are painted in a green shade matching the wallpaper.
The other kitchen cabinets are made with frames from Ikea and doors from Superfront. The worktops are quartz to match the marble, and the green-painted shelves match the color of the historic cabinets.Â
The walls in the kitchen are decorated with William Morris ‘Willow’ wallpaper in olive green.
The bedroom is a cozy room facing the green courtyard. The greenery from outside returns in the color palette indoors, where the walls are painted in a lovely green shade.
The room has floor to ceiling wardrobes, hidden from view by a beige curtain.
Some old Scandinavian apartments feature an inner hall, a second hall that people often use as a second sitting room or a home office. In this apartment, the inner hall was turned into a children’s bedroom.
The room is decorated with ‘Hollie Blue’ wallpaper from Sandberg.
