Cozy Spaces in a Renovated Early 20th-Century Apartment in Stockholm
On the fourth floor of a Stockholm building, this beautifully proportioned apartment captures the elegance and optimism of early 20th-century architecture.
Original details, such as window panels, lofty skirting boards, and classic herringbone parquet, nod to the national romantic style popular when the house was built, while carefully considered updates bring the home firmly into the present day.
With 111 square metres of living space, ceiling heights just over three metres, and sunlight streaming in from two directions, the apartment feels wonderfully open and bright.
The apartment was comprehensively renovated in 2019, with a clear respect for its 1910s origins. During the renovation, the kitchen was relocated to create a more sociable layout, a new bathroom was added, and Kolmård marble was installed in all window sills.

The apartment features a wonderful open-plan living space with four large windows and enough space for a comfortable seating area and a large dining table.

The walls in the living space are painted in ‘Tant Johannas’ green hue by Nordsjö.

You can see that this space used to be two smaller rooms. Now, it is an amazing social living space with beautiful moldings, high skirting boards, and the original herringbone parquet floor.

The kitchen was renovated in 2019 when the existing herringbone oak parquet was sanded. A white kitchen from Kvik was installed with a worktop and splashback in ceramic “Gotlandskalk” and the walls were painted green.

The sleek handleless cabinets perfectly contrast the historic architecture of the apartment.

The apartment features a generous two-part hall with a herringbone parquet floor and plenty of storage space. The walls are painted in Stockholm White, while the joinery is painted in a greige hue.

The master bedroom is located at the end of the apartment. It opens onto a lovely balcony and features a niche that has been converted into a wardrobe, hidden behind a curtain.

The walls are covered in a beige linen wallpaper from Boråstapeter.

The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, featuring gray tilework, black fittings, and a shower.

A niche in the hall has been fitted with bookshelves.

The second bedroom is a charming space painted in a warm pink hue called ‘Senses’ by Jotun.

The third bedroom is now a home office, featuring a dynamic bookcase and walls decorated with the Honeysuckle wallpaper by William Morris.

The bathroom was renovated in 2019 and features large, soft gray tiles on both walls and floors. It features sinks from Villeroy Boch, a faucet from Tapwell, and a bathroom cabinet from Vedum.

The entry hall is designed with soft pink marble tiles that transition into the oak parquet floor seen in the rest of the apartment. Large built-in wardrobes with a seating bench provide plenty of storage space.
