An Early 20th-Century Family Home Decorated with Color and Art
This beautiful, renovated early 20th-century villa is located in Gamla Enskede, a residential area south of Stockholm. It was built to look like a typical English garden city, where no street is straight but they are all crooked and bent.
This house was originally built as a semi-detached home, but now it is a beautiful detached house situated on a plot of almost 1000 square meters with a large garden surrounding the house.
The house was renovated with great care and love. The original windows have been restored, creating wonderful patterns on the floor and walls when the sun shines through them. The house pairs classic Scandinavian elements with Italian elements from the 70s.
The ground floor has three equally sized living spaces, each having windows in two directions. The living room has a semi-open layout with the dining room, creating cozy spaces that also feel airy.
A brass “Hanging Lamp no. 2” by Muller van Severen lights the seating area.
The calm gray-blue shade on the walls contrasts perfectly with the vibrant decor in this room. A zebra-striped corner sofa dominates the room, standing atop a vibrant cobalt blue rug.
Opposite the sofa is a green-painted built-in bookcase with space for the television. A wood-burning stove stands in the corner, creating a cozy atmosphere in the room.
Pure wooden pilasters flank the opening to the living room.
The dining room is painted in a calm gray-green shade. With open connections to the living room and the kitchen, this room is the heart of the home, and this layout is perfect for social evenings at home.
The kitchen can be accessed via the dining room and the hall. The charming space pairs light gray mirror doors with a solid oak countertop and gilded handles.
Hanging plants surround the window facing the garden, bringing the outdoors in. Glass-fronted cabinets on either side of the sink and window display glassware and crockery.
The walls in the inner hall are covered with light pearl tongue and groove paneling paired with BorÃ¥stapeter’s “Indigo Garden” wallpaper.
On the first floor are three bedrooms and a walk-in closet. The master bedroom is decorated in a moody blue shade paired with antique art and furniture.
The spacious room has windows in two directions and there is enough room for a bedroom home office or a reading nook.
From the master bedroom, you can access a spacious walk-in closet with open wardrobes and a soft carpet underfoot.
Next to the master bedroom (with a door connecting the two spaces) lies another spacious bedroom which is now a charming children’s room.
The room is so big, it can easily be used as a bedroom for two children with a lovely play area in the center atop a big blue-colored rug.
The smaller bedroom is painted in a vibrant yellow shade paired with a light wooden floor.
There is a beautiful bathroom on the first floor with a stylish old-fashioned chest of drawers from Qvesarum’s “Alice” collection, topped with marble that is used as the sink.
The walls are white-tiled, paired with the “Deco Martini” wallpaper from Divine Savages.
The house is surrounded by a large garden filled with trees, flowers, and plants.
