Five-Meter Glazed Garden Doors in an Expanded London Home
This remarkable five-bedroom Victorian home has been extensively refurbished and expanded by architects PARTI. Thoughtfully designed to honor its historic character while adapting to modern living, the interiors have been meticulously restructured.
From the moment you step inside, carefully framed views guide your gaze, enhancing the sense of space and connection. Original Victorian shutters open onto uninterrupted sightlines that lead to the garden, where towering five-meter glazed doors create a striking interplay between heritage and contemporary design.
Spanning four floors, the house is bathed in natural light, particularly on the lower levels, where an elegant extension seamlessly merges the indoor living spaces with the small city garden beyond.
The once dark and cramped basement floor has been turned into a magnificent kitchen and dining room thanks to the bold 2.5-story glazed extension overlooking the garden.
PARTI’s design features a bold façade split into two angular forms, echoing the distinctive V-shaped butterfly roofs of nearby homes. The space comes to life with two striking garden doors—one soaring 5 metres high and the other 3.5 metres—that fully open, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living.
The floor is open, enhancing a sense of volume and light.
The dark stained kitchen cabinets are paired with a modern polished concrete countertop.
The former fireplace is flanked by seating benches and shelves.
Behind the kitchen lies a small sitting area with blue-painted shelves.
The raised ground floor is where you enter the house. The floor has been opened up to create a wonderful sightline from front to back. By painting the upper part of the walls white, the ceiling looks higher, creating a feeling of mores space.
The living room has a more traditional look as it is located in the old Victorian part of the house. A beautiful large window with original shutters draws in natural light and the white fireplace mantel is flanked on one side by shelves.
The house has four bedrooms. The master bedroom is a calming space with light gray walls and large sash windows bringing in loads of natural light.
There are two more bedrooms on the top floor, sharing a bathroom.
The house is listed for sale at Aucoot.
