Gustaf Westman Collection for IKEA: Playful, Colorful and Festive
It’s the day many designer lovers have waited for: Gustaf Westman’s IKEA collection is here! IKEA and Gustaf Westman have presented a new 12-piece collection for tableware and homeware.
The new IKEA collection, created in collaboration with the popular Swedish designer Gustaf Westman, offers a fresh and playful perspective on festive traditions.

The collection is based on the idea that you don’t need a special reason to celebrate, but that you can create joy and togetherness on your own terms.
The collection is part of the recurring VINTERFINT holiday collection by IKEA and includes items like porcelain plates and cups, to candlesticks and lighting.

The collaboration between Gustaf Westman and IKEA was born from a shared desire to explore a more modern and inclusive way to celebrate the holidays while creating an informal design that is filled with joy, but never forgets the spirit of tradition.

“Holidays are often associated with established traditions, and we were curious to explore a more playful and inclusive way to celebrate. Collaborating with Gustaf Westman felt very natural.
Gustaf’s vision of color and shape feels very true to IKEA, but at the same time, he challenges conventions in a bold and expressive way. We are thrilled to be able to make the work of such an exciting designer available to a wider audience”, says Maria O’Brian, IKEA Range Identity Leader.

Festive Traditions Without Limits
The collection’s design language is characterized by Westman’s characteristic curve, sculptural forms, and confident use of color. The collection explores festival traditions that are not limited to a single holiday.
A color palette of red and green is a clear reference to classic aesthetics, while the addition of bubblegum pink and baby blue gives the conventional color palette a twist.

“For me, this has been an opportunity to turn the traditional Christmas decoration upside down and instead introduce a sense of playfulness and boldness. This is my interpretation of Christmas, and it is a new design for a new generation.” – Gustaf Westman
Celebration Food and Community
The theme of expressive contrasts is evident throughout the collection. The porcelain plates, available in dark green and pink, have a clear contrast between their square shape and a soft, round depression in the middle.

Each plate is a strong statement in itself, but is designed to work together with shapes arranged like mosaic pieces to form a coherent table setting series.

The collection’s focus on celebrating food and increased community shines through in specific pieces. In conjunction with IKEA’s iconic meatballs turning 40 this year, the Swedish national dish is given a place of honor in the form of a specially designed meatball plate, where the meatballs are lined up in a neat, festive row.

“For many in Sweden, Christmas isn’t Christmas without meatballs. This plate is my interpretation of that tradition. It’s a simple, fun idea designed to honor meatballs, but it also works perfectly for many other things.” – Gustaf Westman

A porcelain cup and saucer set, designed for traditional mulled wine, features a deliberately oversized saucer. This important detail, inspired by Westman’s childhood memories of the generous Christman baking his grandmother used to serve, provides plenty of room for cookies so that the classic Swedish fika combination can be easily carried along.

The Light in the Center
Light is a central theme in the collection, featuring candlesticks in two colors and porcelain candle holders that share the same square and round shapes as the plates.

This is complemented by a portable, rechargeable lantern with a round, layered body that can be twisted to transform into an extended orbit shape.

Perhaps the most direct association with Swedish Christmas is a modern interpretation of a classic candelabra-style candlestick that is traditionally placed in windows.

The collection concludes with a bouncing vase made from a single metal spiral that twists into an hourglass silhouette and holds a separate glass container.
The two distinct pieces are interdependent, while the spiral frame provides support for hanging flowers that can be threaded through.

“A rounded shape has no clear end, which I think gives an object more life. This vase is a good example; it has a continuous shape and also adds an element of humor with its bounce.
The two parts don’t seem to need each other, but they do, much like two puzzle pieces. It’s that feeling of being a little unnecessary, but in a fun way.” – Gustaf Westman

The limited Gustaf Westman for IKEA collection is available online and in stores from September 26, 2025. Due to the great interest in the collection, there are limitations on how many products each customer can purchase from Gustaf Westman’s collection.
