A High-Pitched Ceiling In a Light London Duplex Apartment
In 2019, an old schoolkeeper’s house was demolished, and in its place, three terraced houses comprising six duplex apartments, designed by Lab Architects, were built. The new construction created garden apartments on the ground floors and loft-style homes with high ceilings on the upper floors.
One of the upper-floor duplex apartments has now been put up for sale, so we can take a look inside this light-filled building. The neutral palette of light oak floorboard and white walls draws the eye to the architectural features.
The living room, especially, is a wonderful space with double-height pitched ceilings and a covered balcony with beautiful slatted woodwork that casts shifting patterns of light and shadow.
The high-pitched ceilings add a wonderful sense of space, which is accentuated by the large pendant lights hanging from the ceiling at different heights.
The apartment has an open-plan living room and kitchen, with the latter designed in a small niche. The L-shaped kitchen features light gray cabinets and a marble countertop and backsplash.
On the right, a glass partition gives a glimpse of the stairwell leading to the upper floor.
At the back of this plan lies a double bedroom, which is now used as a home office. The room features built-in wardrobes and a Juliet balcony overlooking the treetops.
The room also has its own bathroom behind a pocket door, featuring marble tiles and a walk-in shower.
Despite the low, slanted ceilings, the top floor is also a light space thanks to the many skylights running the entire length of the apartment.
On the other side of the landing, you find the mezzanine, which has been turned into a home office space overlooking the living area below.
This floor also has a bathroom, designed with deep blue walls, marble tiles, and built-in wooden shelving.
The apartment is listed for £550,000 at The Modern House.
