An Oak and Green Kitchen is the Heart of This Stockholm Apartment
On the third floor of a 1930s apartment building on a quiet pedestrian street in the bustling Södermalm district of Stockholm lies this beautiful apartment, fully renovated and featuring a harmonious color and material palette.
The 66 square meter apartment was renovated by interior design firm Maldini Studios, transforming the one-bedroom home into a two-bedroom apartment and a stylish kitchen made of oak and terrazzo that serves as the heart of the home.

From the hallway, you immediately step into the heart of the home: the oak and green kitchen and dining area.

The kitchen features oak veneer cabinet fronts paired with beige terrazzo countertops and backsplashes.

What makes this space the heart of the home is the social dining area with a bench that was built on site and seamlessly fits into the kitchen design. Atmospheric lighting and wooden chairs turn this corner into a cozy spot for entertaining or a quiet moment with a cup of tea.

The partially open layout makes this apartment feel so much bigger than its actual size. A herringbone parquet floor, some original from the 1930s and parts newer in the same style, tie the rooms together.

On one side of the kitchen, through a wide doorway, lies the apartment’s living room.

The room is a quiet and serene spot with beige walls, light furnishings, and a wooden table. Beige and green are the main colors used in this home, creating a serene and natural ambiance.

A large dining table (compared to the one in the kitchen) in the living room makes this home fit for dinner parties.

The bedrooms are located on the other side of the kitchen, facing the courtyard. The largest room is painted in a calming beige shade paired with pink bedding and beige-pink partially open cabinets along one wall.

What stands out is the connection to the outdoors.

This is how an apartment in a city is supposed to be! It overlooks a large chestnut tree in the communal courtyard. The tree is said to have been mentioned by the Swedish playwright and novelist August Strindberg, who lived nearby for a short period.

The room also has access to three different built-in closets/wardrobes. One even has a small window.

A headboard has been made out of wood and painted in the same color as the walls. It adds storage space without needing bedside tables. A smart choice in smaller rooms.

The second bedroom is now a charming children’s room with green joinery and beige walls.

The simple bathroom features beige tiles on the walls and dark green on the floor. Oak has been used to create storage space.

The welcoming hall is color-drenched in a soft green hue. Built-in wardrobes provide a lot of storage space in the small space.
