Vintage Decor, Pink Walls, and Period Features in a 1930s Studio Apartment
On the first floor of a 1930s apartment building in a leafy area in the central Södermalm area in Stockholm lies a wonderful apartment filled with light and bright colors that will put a smile on your face.
The 42-square-meter corner apartment features many of its 1930s-era elements, such as herringbone parquet flooring, mirrored doors and windows, built-in serving cabinets, and high ceilings, creating a characteristic base for the colorful interior scheme.

The apartment is listed as a studio, but it’s spacious, with a traditional inner hall that serves as a partially separate sleeping area.

The sitting area is spacious and wonderfully light, thanks to large windows on two sides. The classic architecture is combined with a bold pink interior scheme, including pink walls, pink lace curtains, and a deep pink sofa.

Glass-framed doors open toward a charming, rounded balcony space, extending the living area in the warmer months.

Due to its first-floor position and the large trees in the green courtyard, the balcony is pretty private, and it makes you feel like you’re part of nature instead of living in the middle of the city. This is something I particularly love about Swedish apartment buildings.

The wooden door leads you to a spacious built-in wardrobe, allowing the main space to be free of bulky storage furniture.

The 1970s Kjell Nordin armchair is upholstered with a bold leopard print.

A wide opening leads you to the inner hall, where the current owner created a sleeping niche. This area can also be the kitchen, so that the closed kitchen space can become a bedroom.

The sleeping niche is equally colorful as the main room. The purple hue on the walls is actually pretty soothing for a bedroom space. Lace curtains instead of doors help to create an open feeling while still creating closed-off spaces.

The apartment has a separate kitchen with white-painted floorboards and a huge window.

A cozy breakfast nook has been created with a built-in bench decorated with pillows and a small table.

The simple white cabinets are paired with a wooden countertop and dark blue walls.

The hall is painted in the same purple shade as the sleeping niche. It features a spacious walk-in wardrobe by the front door, keeping the spaces clutter-free, while a hat shelf and a small shelf above the radiator store coats and smaller items.
