A Renovated Duplex Apartment with Exposed Brick Walls
The top two floors of an early 20th-century apartment building in Gothenburg, Sweden, have been transformed into a charming family apartment with exposed brick walls, light rooms, and charming attic bedrooms.
The duplex apartment has been renovated with care, preserving original features like mirror doors, serving cabinets, and high skirting boards. The exposed brick walls also show the history of the apartment, and the bedrooms on the top floor feature pitched ceilings with exposed beams.

The lower floor is home to the living spaces. The living room is light and airy with a white-painted brick feature wall and light-colored textiles.
The room also features a charming, rustic dining table with a bench fitted between the walls, providing plenty of seating space.
The kitchen is a pleasant space with a window overlooking the courtyard. The room has a solid pine floor, original wood paneling, and the original serving cabinet and pantry.
The classic kitchen cabinets are painted in a soft beige shade and paired with a solid ash countertop and a butler sink. Classic white tiles serve as the backsplash, and above that, the brick wall has been exposed, adding a nice contrast between the soft shades of the kitchen and the red bricks.
The brown pendant lamps above the worktop are from Muuto. The shade is similar to Pantone’s color of the year 2025, ‘mocha mousse.’
The open doorway between the living room and kitchen means that natural light flows into the apartment from two sides, creating light and airy interior spaces.
The staircase leads to the upper floor with two bedrooms and where the landing is turned into a small home office.
The master bedroom is cozy and light, thanks to a cute dormer window and white walls. Despite the slanted ceilings, the room feels spacious because the ceiling has been completely opened, exposing the wooden beams of the roof structure.
On the opposite wall, the owners created wardrobes hidden by curtains (not pictured).
The second bedroom is smaller but perfect as a children’s room. It is designed in a similar style as the master bedroom with a deep dormer window and a high ceiling.
The wall is fitted with a window to let natural light flow into the hall and staircase.
The bathroom is tiny, but with white tiles on the floor and walls, the room is bright and smartly designed.
The floor in the hall is covered with the black and white Victorian Floor Tile patterns from Byggfabriken.
