A Serene Palette and a Glass Framed Wall in a Swedish Apartment
There are homes that instantly make you feel calm, and when you live in the center of a city, that can be a welcome retreat from a busy life. This one-bedroom apartment in the Vasastaden area in Gothenburg is such a home.
The 67 square meter apartment was carefully renovated in recent years, pairing period charm with contemporary elements in a harmonious way. During the renovation, the floor plan has been opened up, creating spacious social areas while also keeping the home’s original character.

Period elements such as the original windows that let light fall softly on the wooden floors, deep window sills, ceiling rosettes, and classic moldings have been preserved and paired with new materials and a calm color palette of mineral paint.

The kitchen is the heart of the home. Classic cabinets in a muted gray-beige hue are paired with oiled oak countertops, tongue-and-groove paneling, a butler sink, and integrated appliances.

I love the combination of storage with closed cabinets, shelves, and glass cabinets. It gives a more dynamic look.

The backsplash paneling is painted in the same color as the cabinets, creating a built-in and harmonious look.

The kitchen plan is L-shaped, creating an open space that can be used as a cozy seating area, making this an even more social area or a home office as it is now.

The large wooden table in the center of the space becomes the natural gathering point in the home. Perfect for catching up with friends and family or for working from home.

On the other side of the apartment lies the living room and the bedroom, separated by a white-framed glass wall.

The sitting area is a fresh, light space with a stained pine floor, light-colored walls, and light furniture. The large window overlooks a large tree, creating a nice connection with nature.

The glass wall between the living room and the bedroom allows light from the windows in both rooms to flow freely through the spaces, enhancing the light atmosphere in the home.

The bedroom is a peaceful space with sanded and varnished original floorboards and walls painted in a soothing gray hue.

A sliding barn-style doors open onto a spacious walk-in wardrobe.

The bathroom mixed classic and modern styles with tongue-and-groove paneling, a rainshower, and a classic vanity table topped with a gray sink.

The front door opens into an entry hall, while a few steps and an industrial glass door lead you to the inner hall with a built-in wardrobe and pine floorboards.
