A Small Apartment with an Industrial Stainless Steel Kitchen
In a grand and beautiful 1920s building in Stockholm lies this charming one-bedroom apartment with an open, social layout. The 41 square meter apartment features a lovely blend of old and new, creating a charming home brimming with history that’s comfortable for present-day living.
The apartment has a slightly unusual layout. A long hall with charming angles opens into the open-plan living space. In the original layout from 1928, the kitchen was a small kitchenette, but today, the home has a nice, spacious, open-plan kitchen space. In addition, the alcove that was next door has now been built into a separate bedroom.Â

The floors are original from the 1920s. Herringbone oak parquet lies throughout the apartment, except in the kitchen and a corner of the hall, which has a white-painted board floor.

The sitting area is a charming space with a white sofa underneath the original barred window with a deep window sill. The contemporary furniture pairs beautifully with the historical details.

The original herringbone oak floor adds character to the apartment.

Between the kitchen and living room, there is space for a dining table. With a bench against the wall you would open up the space even more.

The kitchen is designed in an industrial style with stainless steel cabinets, white tiles that reach the ceiling, and open shelves and utensil bars for glass, porcelain, and kitchen utensils.

The cold stainless steel is paired with a warm wooden countertop. The sink is placed under the window, overlooking a small courtyard. The kitchen is a wonderful contrast to the original elements of the 1920s apartment.

A sliding door opens into the tiny bedroom with green walls. Internal windows are fitted into the walls, so the small space gets some natural light. But overall, it is a small and dark room, perfect for sleeping.

The bathroom lies on the other side of the long hall. It is designed in a classic black and white palette, featuring a clawfoot bath and a vintage-style shower head. It suits the apartment’s history pretty well.

The hall is long with charming angles that provide plenty of space for storage furniture. The walls are painted in a dark blue shade, making the original white-painted woodwork stand out wonderfully.

The apartment is listed for sale at Historiska Hem.
