A Cozy Early 20th-Century Home with Views of Lake Mälaren in Sweden

Let’s take a tour of one of Bromma’s rare and well-preserved summer retreats from 1909. This unique villa boasts sweeping views over Lake Mälaren, with a story that begins long before roads reached the area.

This turn-of-the-century gem is among the few remaining original houses from the era when visitors arrived in Bromma by steamboat across Lake Mälaren.

At that time, the shoreline was dotted with summer villas, where Stockholm’s families came to enjoy the fresh air, natural beauty, and peaceful surroundings far from the bustle of the city.

For more than a century, this house has stood proudly in its original place, retaining both its charm and many authentic details. Inside, you’ll find three magnificent tiled stoves, an open fireplace, and a timeless atmosphere that makes this much more than just a home; it’s a living piece of history.

With a larger garden plot than is typical in Bromma, and an uninterrupted view of the water, it offers both character and space in a setting that feels worlds away, yet close to the city.

At the turn of the 20th century, the stretch between Ålstens gård and Nockeby Bridge was still wild and untouched. Roads had not yet been built along Mälaren’s shores, and the area, then known as Nockebyskogen, was characterized by forest and open nature.

It was here that a handful of grand summer villas were built for affluent Stockholm families, creating a tradition of lakeside retreats that this property continues to embody today.
