A Small, Green deVOL Kitchen in a 17th-Century London Mews House
Tucked away in a charming 17th-century mews house in Bermondsey, this small deVOL kitchen proves that great design isn’t reserved for grand homes or sprawling floor plans. Measuring just 4 by 4.5 metres, this space is a joyful reminder that small can be both beautiful and brilliantly functional.
With its wonderfully wonky walls and sloping floors, this old room posed a challenge that called for clever planning, precision fitting, and plenty of character. deVOL Kitchens rose to the occasion and designed this wonderful green kitchen using the Shaker cabinets that fit seamlessly into the niches and provide style, soul, and functionality.

This kitchen radiates warmth and approachability. It’s not styled to perfection, but it’s lived in, loved, and filled with everyday charm. A vintage wooden table sits in the center of the room, forming the natural central gathering space for a lazy breakfast, a cozy dinner, or a glass of wine while someone else is cooking.

The cupboards are painted in a bespoke vibrant green, paired with baby blue open shelves, and pistachio green on the original sash windows. It is a contemporary and cheerful color palette in this historic space.

Despite the modest size of the kitchen, it has everything you need, like under-counter appliances, a pull-out bin, a beautifully fluted sink, and a large Lacanche range.

Because the room is a bit wonky at places, it called for a creative blend of the Shaker cabinets and bespoke tweaks. Every piece of furniture at deVOL is made to order, which means they can easily adapt their designs to suit the quirks of old homes and unusual layouts.

The green cabinets are paired with a beautiful copper countertop and brass fittings, adding classic elegance and depth to the kitchen.

Some cabinets feature deVOL’s Boho Handles, a lovely frilly accent to the green kitchen.

I absolutely adore this new deVOL kitchen. Even though it is new, the colors, materials, and style make it look as if this kitchen has always been part of the historic home. It is full of personality and life, paired with contemporary functionality.
