A Stylish Basement Apartment with a Private Terrace
The basement floor of a beautiful Art Nouveau villa in the Gamla Enskede area in Stockholm has been transformed into a charming one-bedroom apartment with a private terrace.
Architect Annica Åberg has designed the 44 square meter basement floor layout. It is well thought out, with a spacious kitchen area with glass doors leading to the outdoor terrace, a cozy seating area, and a bedroom space with a double bed.
Lavish material choices, such as the marble kitchen countertops and the Carrara marble tiled bathroom floor, give an exclusive feel, while barred glass doors hint at the Art Nouveau building style of the villa.
The kitchen is the heart of the home, with a rustic wooden table in the center that is the natural gathering space in the home.
The kitchen is made of modern light gray cabinets paired with brass knobs and a Carrara marble countertop and backsplash.
The modern kitchen style is complemented with a classic sink and faucet that give a subtle nod to the apartment’s early 20th-century building style.
Barred glass doors open to the private courtyard terrace. Due to the basement level of the apartment, the terrace is wonderfully private and a great extension to the living spaces in the warmer months.
The private terrace has a staircase leading to the wonderful communal garden.
The sitting area lies just off the kitchen. The tiny space is wonderfully cozy and stylish with contemporary Scandinavian furniture and decor, a large rug, and ledges that can be used for books and decor.
The stylish black candleholder will add a cozy atmosphere and soft light to the space when lit.
The entire apartment is fitted with a light wooden floor and light gray walls, creating a stylish base for the basement apartment, which can be decorated in any way you like.
On the other side of the kitchen lies the bedroom space. The bed has been placed in the niche to create a larger open space with wardrobes.
The bed niche is just big enough for a double bed. The earthy-toned bedding and pillows create a cozy and warm atmosphere.
The bathroom is simple, yet stylish. The walls are covered with white beveled half-joint tiles, and the floor is covered with Carrara marble tiles.
The apartment’s private entry leads directly to a staircase with space for hanging coats and other items.
The communal garden is a lush haven in the summer with large grassy areas, trees, and multiple seating areas.
