A Swedish Apartment with a Yellow Kitchen
Three years ago, this classic turn-of-the-century apartment in Sweden was completely renovated. Soft color tones were added to the walls, the light wooden floors were sanded, and the kitchen was given a much-needed update.
The apartment’s floor plan is laid out at an angle, creating rooms with an unusual layout. However, there is a nice flow in the 91-square-meter apartment, and the rooms are light and spacious. Original elements have been preserved, including three historic fireplaces that add so much character to the spaces, as well as built in cupboards.
We start the home tour in the kitchen, my favorite room in the house. The kitchen was updated with lemon yellow cabinets paired with green terrazzo worktops, which is a similar color to the walls in the hallway, which you’ll see later in the article.
Thanks to the unusual layout, there is plenty of room for a round dining table, which fits nicely in the yellow color scheme of the kitchen. Behind the dining area is a built-in pantry, and the doors open up to the balcony overlooking the courtyard.
I love the combination of a calm base with a light wooden floor and beige walls with bold-colored furniture. The blue dining tables, red sofa, and red rug truly pop in this otherwise calm room.
The living room features an original tiled fireplace and built-in bookshelves that could also be transformed into a tiny home office as the shelves can easily be adapted.
The apartment features two large bedrooms. Next to the living room, you’ll find this cozy pie-shaped room with large windows and a calm beige-brown shade on the walls.
This room also features a fireplace with subtle mint green tiles.
The second bedroom lies next to the kitchen and is painted in a fresh light blue shade.
The hall is spacious, centrally located, and connects the entire apartment. Inside the front door, a large wardrobe has just been built, with doors in the same style as the original cupboards in the apartment. The joinery is painted in eggshell white, and the walls in the hall are a soft and cozy light greenÂ
