The Flint House Kitchen Extension by deVOL
When trend forecaster Samantha Palmer and her husband Adam moved back to England after spending ten years in New York, they bought an old flint-fronted cottage on the south coast. The Victorian house had a small galley kitchen, but Samantha and Adam wanted something bigger, so they expanded the house with a pitched roof extension and a new deVOL kitchen.
Often, Victorian houses are extended with a modern construction, but at The Flint House, they opted for a structure that seamlessly blends with the historic architecture. They took special care of even the smallest details, from window placements to a wooden floor that looks identical to the old floorboards and using the old bricks for the back wall. The new light, spacious, and historic-looking kitchen pairs perfectly with the Victorian home.

The owners opted for the shaker cabinets by deVOL kitchen for the new kitchen with an old look. The layout is simple: an L-shaped run with lots of storage, a Belfast sink under the window overlooking the garden, and an island in the center with more storage space and bar seating.
Sam wanted the kitchen cabinets to have the same color as an old Land Rover Defender and she found the perfect color match in Benjamin Moore’s ‘Night Owl’, a dark brown shade with green undertones.
The green cabinets are paired with a Calacatta marble worktop and splashback, brass fittings, a large Bertazzoni range cooker, and a pink island.
a charming dining area is created with the deVOL Petite Vineyard Table and a built-in bench, which always creates extra seating space in smaller rooms.
The kitchen island also features seating space, which makes this kitchen a wonderful social space. The stools are ‘The Plumber’s Stool’ from deVOL.
The muddy pink kitchen island adds a light and soft color tone to the kitchen.
When you look at this kitchen it’s hard to believe that everything is brand new, but it shows that you can create a historic look by using the right materials, colors, and furniture like the Real Shaker furniture from deVOL.
